To be fair Uniden wont offer these extras because even uniden doesnt see the R7 as something you keep for a long time. They are just building it good enough until the next iteration comes out. So on and so forth.
Thats cool how you know what Unidens plans are for the R7 and how they are building it for now. Could you tell us what Escort snd Radenso plans are with there next units?

Doesnt take a genius to figure out they want you to buy another radar detector.... Hows that R3 of yours? running good? did you pre order the R7? See how you proved my point. Are you going to jump on the next bigger better thing from uniden? Maybe the mount attachment will be the same.... or maybe you need to contact blend mount for another adapter. That firmware cable from R3.... oh that changed too Gotta get a micro usb

Of course they do so does Valentine though. If I want to upgrade my V1 it is $300 plus shipping. Not complaining it is a awesome detector but these companies have to make money. Escort even makes Radar guns tell me they don't have incentive there...

Depending on which model you have. It was 79+ shipping so 94ish for me. Beats paying 399 for an R3 and then 2 years later 599 for R7

If someone bought a r3 for $400. Why would someone have to buy a r7 for $600 2 years later.

My friend is still running his lrd950.

They dont have to.... but they will did you check how many people own R3's and are on the preorder for R7? Same reason Apple releases the new iphone that is the same as the last and people rush to the store to get one.

All im really saying is the company policy isnt to improve upon a platform. That may change with the R7 but i would bet money they come out later with one that has app support and bluetooth built in.

So what’s the difference between that and mike releasing an update?

Yes, I've already pre-ordered the R7 and will replace in my vehicle with my V1 running w/ JBV1. It's that companion software that has allowed me to tolerate the V1 this long. I still find the range and performance on the V1 top notch, but I also thought Betamax was pretty awesome compared to VHS. The reality is the new Unidens are amazing and if the R7 has the same range as my R3, with arrows, and doesn't require me to run a companion app to tolerate it, then I may be finally hanging up my V1 for good. Plus, I have a real issue with a company that simply fails to address consumer inquiries and interests and refuses to offer anything new. I get it, the V1 is a great unit, but it's not the only top-of-the-line unit and is falling back quicker than ever before. It will be a sad day for sure, but the V1 is about to hit my shelf for the first time in many years and may never see the light of day again (except for traveling on a plane and wanting my RD on the other end).

For clarification;
$300 is not the "upgrade-a-feature" price.
That's the "trade-in-your-obsolete-V1 (but keep your accessories) and get-a-brand-new-V1-with-all-new-accessories" price. That's the major overhaul price.

It's only $300. What's the price for the nearest arrows competitor?

[EDIT] I don't care if anyone has a differing opinion. But please try to be accurate.

So in one case. A person gets a brand new detector with physical new features. Almost like a brand new completely different model that really isn’t comparable with their old detector and still has their old detector to use/sell etc

While in the other case the person still has their old detector with new fw that they had to send in and pay for

Not really sure what your point was since you answered your own question... i thought you were arguing for no difference? But i will add that one uses a platform that can be upgraded for a min cost to add new features and another is buying a different detector for a larger sum of money while the previous unit is no longer as relevant / valued etc.

That depends on the type of "upgrade", doesn't it?

A full replacement of a V1 gets you a new detector in the box. You "sell" your old one to Valentine Research without the selling hassles.

An upgrade does generally retain your existing enclosure. Have you seen their build quality? My 16-year old V1 still looked new when I traded it in.

First off I'm a huge fan of the V1 have had mine for years and it has been amazing. I have said many times I would upgrade it over a R7 if it did everything that I need... I like that the V1 is designed and built in the USA for one. Valentine really needs to update it to have useful MRCD detection, better BSM filtering and allow people to update the firmware at home.

In staying with being accurate...
It is $300 + shipping and I have nothing to sell to recoup my costs to "upgrade my V1" Yes it is obsolete that is why I want to upgrade it. The stuff they are upgrading for $80 is stuff the R3 can do with a free firmware download. Being able to update the firmware on your own is something Valentine is behind on. Point is I could still sell my V1 for more money and buy a new one for cheaper then this never obsolete upgrade.

I can do the same with the R3 I can sell it and put the money towards the R7. Or I can keep the still supported R3 (still update the firmware for free). Point is just like the major overhaul with the valentine The R7 requires new hardware over the R3. Anytime you need new hardware it is going to be costly.

I would add to the point the R3 has reached it upgrade limit from a hardware standpoint. Kinda making the jump to the R7 justifiable if you want further developments. I see that as very different from a V1 that has been in production for years adding so many features that it will need to be replaced.

The current V1 adds many features over its predecessors, including tech capabilities the R7 doesn’t even plan to offer. The TCO (total cost of ownership) of a V1 over the years is MUCH lower than buying and selling a continual stream of new models from others.
