Been a V1 user for about 10 years now and the lack of updates has left me kind wanting more. We keep hearing about updates but nothing ever seems to come to fruition.

As soon as the R7 drops, I think I'll be jumping ship. Anyone else thinking about it?

Though I too am very excited about this new product I absolutely won't be jumping ship from my V1.

If there's one thing I've learned doing this so long any new product has tons of bugs and issues that can go on for years till they all get workout.

This is why I don't own any Uniden's now. But hopefully the time will come where I will.

Last update came with my valentine gave it much better filtering especially if K band is used in your area not in my case but makes a difference. I love my valentine hooked up with jbv1 but the R7 is where I'm going since Mike has failed us with a v2.

I will be getting a R7. I'm going to keep my V1 in hopes that Valentine releases a proper update. It isn't a easy decision because the V1 has been a super solid detector. I have had mine for years so at the very least I need to update it. My problem is the R7 seems to be what the V1 should be. I can update the firmware at home, It detects MRCT properly, has auto gps lockouts(built in no need for a phone app). Valentine really needs to release a update or V2.

No bluetooth, no API support. No JBV1. maybe somebody will and I'll get myself another V1 cheap!

Also, Completely unproven. there are R3 users who refuse to upgrade their firmware.

A V1 along with @johnboy00 app is currently not on the same playing field of these other detectors. If you watch some of the testing on automatic blockouts, it will make you cringe knowing there are spots that you are completely vulnerable to now....

JBV1 just is not matched by any technology right now! So yes I'll be keeping my V1!

The V1 has treated me very well the past 10 years. It is still a solid choice today. The problem is, it is getting a bit long in the tooth. Every year, it's the same story. I'm not waiting anymore. It's time to upgrade.

I don't need any of that. For my daily commute to and from work, I need speed camera's and the occasional cop running radar.

Do you have Bluetooth dongle on your V1? There is a reason I left the most current detectors on the market to come back to the V1, unfortunately there are a lot of people unaware of the JBV1 app.

I own a V1 because of the JBV1 app. There are a lot of us that also do. Imagine Waze on steroids.... How does an airplane flying above you trying to get you on VASCAR, how many apps can tell you that information? JBV1 can.

I understand what you mean about your daily drive. Any radar detector that has auto lockout is setting you up. And that's all I'll say about that at this level access....

Indeed, I do. I won't need the bluetooth dongle or the thing I plugged into my OBD2 port or any of that. It will all come built in. I'm not hating on the V1, but at this point, it's lagging behind and if you're not moving forward, you're losing. Once the next version of the Valentine is released, I'm sure I'll buy one. Right now, that doesn't look like it'll be any time soon. The V1 is still a solid RD, but newer, better, sleeker, more advanced detectors are popping up.

I'll probably keep mine. Maybe I'll sell my R3 first? lol

Seriously I'm wondering if Mike V is waiting for the auto lockout patent to expire. I know he's against it, but it could be only because he can't use it. He was against the rear laser sensor but due to demand he added it. So auto-lockouts is still a possibility.

It's not a new product though. The R3 and R5 were new. Undiden is using that experience with the R7.

This is exactly it. Not being able to update the firmware without sending it in, Not having gps (even if just for speed cams) , No readout for MR***. The V1 was groundbreaking but now it seems like the competition is way ahead. Uniden has better BSM and range also. I don't think I can think of any reasons to stick with the V1. I will keep mine in case they bring something big but now I'm afraid it is time to move to the R7.

I could not agree with you more, you actually nailed it. And all of these radar detectors that do not have API support are lagging very far behind.

$49 BTLE dongle and unleash the power of the V1, or $600 enjoying the role of R3 users frustrated that new firmware are degrading their radar detector, there is a big group that will not upgrade to the newest version. I came from the R3 crowd.

Please let @chakeubeam know if you would like to sell your V1.

I really hope this r7 is a big upgrade from the R3 because the R3 was very close to being great.

I'll take a $49 dongle over an unproven radar detector.

Having to send it in and not only pay for the update but also pay for the shipping REALLY got on my nerves. I'll pay for the update, but let me just plug it into my computer and do it from the comfort of my house. I think I will keep mine also just in case, but who doesn't want a smarter, improved detector?

Let's compare the R7 to a V1 with JBV1:

Both have: Arrows, auto-lockouts, speed muting/quiet ride, auto-dimming display.

R7 has: Increased K and Ka band sensitivity, MRCD detection, OLED screen, stand-alone (no phone supported/required), user updatable firmware, stealth to RDDs.

V1/JBV1 has: BT connectivity, integrated CSA, VASCAR, speed/RLC alerts, auto-profile switching, concealed/remote display, ability to track >4 bogeys, excellent ramp-up, accurate arrows, customizable audio alerts, audio alerts over BT, customizable display, weather radar, alert logging, alert maps, ability to view and edit lockouts, ability to adjust quiet ride based on PSL, auto/manual alert snoozing, K muting logic, box muting, ability to interface with ALP and TMG systems, magnesium case, superior durability,

So it depends on what features you value most. I fully expect there will be more announcements around the time the auto-lockout patent expires, which could change things as well :)

JBV1 app upgraded V1 unit like no other update yet.
I will NOT be switching my V1+JBV1 for R7.
If there would not be JBV1 app, I would do it in a heartbeat.
I will be switching from Redline Intl to R7 in my wifes car but V1 stays.

I’ll be replacing my R3 with an R7, no doubt, but I’ll hang onto my R3 for testing sessions or maybe give it to my dad to replace the DFR7 I got him for Father’s Day a few years back.

If the R7 turns out to be as good as its potential, which remains to be seen, then I could see it replacing my V1’s over time, down the road. We’ll just have to see how things go in real-world usage.

Not immediately but maybe for testing. For the following reasons:

- Very limited bogey counter
- Inaccurate ramp-up
- Can't connect to a smart device via bluetooth
- 50% more expensive (33% factoring in V1 Bluetooth)
- HUGE and BULKY with no concealed display
- Not premium quality hardware materials and buggy software updates that can't be trusted.

It's going to be a beast for range but it's also not what I consider an enthusiast level device in other categories.
