Let's compare the R7 to a V1 with JBV1:
Both have: Arrows, auto-lockouts, speed muting/quiet ride, auto-dimming display.
R7 has: Increased K and Ka band sensitivity, MRCD detection, OLED screen, stand-alone (no phone supported/required), user updatable firmware, stealth to RDDs.
V1/JBV1 has: BT connectivity, integrated CSA, VASCAR, speed/RLC alerts, auto-profile switching, concealed/remote display, ability to track >4 bogeys, excellent ramp-up, accurate arrows, customizable audio alerts, audio alerts over BT, customizable display, weather radar, alert logging, alert maps, ability to view and edit lockouts, ability to adjust quiet ride based on PSL, auto/manual alert snoozing, K muting logic, box muting, ability to interface with ALP and TMG systems, magnesium case, superior durability,
So it depends on what features you value most. I fully expect there will be more announcements around the time the auto-lockout patent expires, which could change things as well
