Uniden product planning meeting:
"Well I guess we call this an R5, right?"
"No way man. This is too epic. We're bringing this up to 7!"

They should have called it the R11

Vortex, any word on if they are making a nicer concealed unit display? The RD looks freakin awesome, and I'm glad I held off, but I'd much rather run it in fully dark mode if it's going to be hanging off my windshield. Wishlist would be a CD like V1 has!!

@Vortex can you comment on this: "The R7 will ship with manual lockouts like the R3 at launch, and autolockouts will be added in the first firmware update."

Will the first firmware update be delayed until the Escort autolockout patent expires in June, or is there some other reason for the delay?
That's a good question. I'm not entirely sure. There's other things they're wanting to add later on that I'm assuming they aren't going to be able to finish by launch and I don't know if the autolearn algorithm is one of them and/or if it's a patent thing.

Thanks for this!

Is the mounting slot any different from R3? I.e. will I be able to use my existing blendmount bracket?
@Vortex , do we believe the new mounting system/design will work with the old mounting system?
The article on Vortex site says it’s the same mounting bracket/system as the DFR7. So in theory those with Blendmounts can just order the correct clip from Blendmount. I think they run 39.99.

So the detector is a little bit longer out the back. You'll notice it mounts at the top of the detector, not the rear like the R3. So the mounting tab will need to be a little longer to keep the detector from hitting the windshield. It will be compatible with the DFR7 mount. I'm not totally sure how it'll look with Blendmount compatibility yet.

Two R3s for sale in 3..2..1....

Awesome!

Link for pre-order? @BestRadarDetectors
Its way too far off to start pre-orders. Target is April but I would not be surprised if it goes into May since its not even field tested yet and only lab tested.
Creditcard holds are only good for 30 days anyway so its useless to do a pre-order since the funds will long expire. When we actually start to get real data on a real date we will let everyone know and we will setup a pre-order but this info is only being released now because of the early leak not because the product is ready.

Any word on a companion app? It’s the only way I see running the unit completely dark with arrows. Other than that, sounds promising.
Unless they up their game with the concealed display unit. I thought I would have liked an app, but after riding around for a couple of days with Escort Live and a smartradar I'm playing around with I realized I freakin hate having to deal with an app. I'd much rather just have Waze open than have to go back and forth. Unfortunately I'm on iOS, which means no overlays for me and crappy Carplay support. So my vote is for a hardware based concealed display unit, preferably the level of the V1 unit.

Having a detector on at night (especially with a colorful OLED display) creates quite a bit of curiosity from those driving around me.

Yep, especially those pesky drivers with red/blue lights on top of their car!

If it doesn't have the Dark mode that pops into full bright (or as a setting), no bueno for me.

Did the current R1/R3 ever get that option? I think I saw some older threads where some got it.
