Mute and Mark buttons on the side = Hassle
There’s plenty of room under the display for those buttons, hopefully Uniden will reconsider their location.

The fanboi is strong in this one ^ ^ ^

As great as the V1 is, you really mean three decades ago, right??

The last decade gave us ESP, TMF1 and 2 and what else??? A BT dongle? Come on, as much as I love my V1(s) ,I can't honestly say that Mike V has exactly been innovative in the past decade. Perhaps 35 years ago with the original Escort and the V1. Sure, he's got about 4 patents sitting out there unused and is piling on the money to his beloved Cincinnati Bearcats, BUT more than All combined in the past decade. Stretching it a bit are we??

The V1 still can't lock out stationary K band falsing without using an app and the range is now mid-low tier compared to the M3 and R1/3 units. The stealth of the M3 alone gives it a 9/10 on a 10 scale and BSRDR just added to its greatness 6 years ago. IF the V1 had no apps (hypothetically), it would be squawking K band falses to the high heavens around every strip mall and Walgreens in the US. Plus , it doent do jack on MRCD/T either.
Remember we are talking about CJR238 who takes 2-3 years before he even updates his ALP lol

Perhaps the R5 will be released next year. It will be the non GPS equivalent.

This is the top of the line model, there might be an R5 sometime, but it will NOT be an R7 without GPS, they specifically said there will not be a NO GPS version of the R7. The R7 is it, no lower models based off this chassis. Making a detector this big with two antennas and large OLED doesn't make sense to sell one for $50 less without GPS. You do realize it is basically two R3s with a large OLED screen, right? The R3 is $400 so two R3s are $800, the R7 is $599.99 with GPS so it doesn't make sense to sell a lesser model when the R3 is still going to be around.

My only wonder is, how well do rear antennas work through window tint? My rear windows are all blacked out with 4% tint, so there would really be no point in me upgrading to the R7 if the rear antenna isn't very effective.
As long as it’s not metallic tint, you’re golden. No issues with window tint no matter how dark. Keep in mind you can mount remotes behind plastic bumper shells (ideally non-metallic paint). Visible light transmission is irrelevant.

Congrats Uniden!

I was busy most of the day and just logged in now, 15 pages and 284 posts…

Impressive
A larger OLED screen
Arrows that change color
1dB improved performance over R3
Ambient light sensor
Autolockouts (future)
K band down to 23.950
8 bars of signal strength
Additional display style with rounded strength bars (future)

This is a great example of a company first producing a fantastic product in the R series at a very attractive price point, but more impressive is a company attitude of not sitting back and being content but listening to customers and testers, in making a fantastic product even better.

Some might sell their R1/R3 when this comes out, but I will keep mine as it will continue to be fantastic unit and can be used by the family.

I am confident they will drastically improve the BSM filtering, and then this unit will be almost perfect. Open Api would be nice but I think that is a tougher corporate decision for Uniden to open up access.

I bought my R3 from Tom@BRD, will buy my R7 from him, just signed up on the waiting list.

Cant wait to hear more...

I'd say it's more like an R3 & a Bestbuy R1 ($599.98).

Vortex, any word on if they are making a nicer concealed unit display? The RD looks freakin awesome, and I'm glad I held off, but I'd much rather run it in fully dark mode if it's going to be hanging off my windshield. Wishlist would be a CD like V1 has!!
I think this is the future. Why have such exposure to LEOs and the general populace?

In an all new case that doesn’t share any production with R3 or R1’s.

You need to watch the Vortex R7 video again, he specifically says Uniden said NO R7 without GPS. It is also in the VG announcement.

.
It creates an advantage. A leg up, so to speak. I don’t want the kind of attention these things can and do create.

At this moment, I’m happy for Uniden. Realistically for now though; I’m anticipating the February 1st companion app update from Escort. Perhaps this will change.

The article @Vortex wrote he said that he asked uniden if they were going to make a non GPS version and they said that they dont plan on it. If @Vortex asked Uniden 2 years ago if they would offer a BBYR1 for $179.99 what do you think they would have said? It is entirely possible that they will never make a non GPS version. The R5 might be reserved for something else or there may never be an R5.

I bet @BestRadarDetectors wasn't happy with the Best Buy exclusive and politely asked uniden to not to change the mount and power cord and allow Best Buy to sell the BBYR7 for 60% of what he is required to sell them for. So the R5 could be a best buy exclusive non GPS unit in the future. This would eliminate all the emails @BestRadarDetectors gets asking to price match the Best Buy price.

Uniden dropping the R7 is the end of Mike's Golden Goose, Mike could barely update his website over the course of 21 years, Why drop an New RD ?
Mike will still have those people who buy V1's, based on word of mouth of other uninformed people, or people who upgrade their current V1 because they love opening an app to have a decent radar detector. I hope this finally encourages Mike to do something with his detector and bring it into the modern age! This R7 is going to be big competition for all the players involved. And that's a good thing. I'm excited for what's to come, not only of the R7, but any other potential detectors (a single update of the V1 to a V2 after multiple decades would be nice).

If you still have a V1 would you want to sell it?
