I know bud but that wasn't my point. After looking at Vortex video again R7 may have both but it's hard to judge as even vortex can misspeak and one can't hold onto it as nothing has been announced.

I just wanted to get my point across. What they will do we will see.
I bet you get what you're asking for, Uniden listens to its customer base!

Any leads in this regard from Jon who knew about the R7 for some time?
We actually knew about this in early 2018 when word was leaked that Uniden USA was working on a dual horn, ala, V1 unit. It was silent after that, BUT I'd say we've had an inkling for at least a year now. Tom @BRD can confirm our "suspicions."

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

Like a fire-scorched tree, hopefully (after the fire storm that's coming) it'll blossom into a new creation better than before! Sometimes it takes a bush-fire to spur healthy new growth.
The Max360 and R1/3 weren't HOT enough??

I hope so. Vortex and Best radar detectors actually know this already but they can't talk about it as it's not announced. You can interpret that 2 ways tho if you listen carefully what he said. lol

It seems like Uniden has really taken a lot of our concerns and requests into consideration. So many good, new features and tweaks in this R7. I have a feeling I’ll be preordering this just like I did with the R3.

I can only hope they’ve gotten the hardware limitations squared away to make room for auto lockouts. I doubt they included sufficient processing power to make them smart lockouts that shrink as much as possible over time, but I guess we’ll have to see. We can only pray they thought about and approved it.

I really, really hope they’ve planned for supporting Bluetooth LE through a dongle (USB or RJ11) like VR or via a “smart cord” like Escort, providing an open API for app-based configuration and profiles (and for backing up and sharing lockouts, etc) as well as for supporting 3rd party apps like RDFGS v2, the equivalent of V1Driver and JBV1, and to allow for expansion into crowd-sourced cloud-based functionality like universal auto lockouts and such.

I also wish very much that it was physically more compact. There’s a lot of wasted space in an R3. Maybe they need every bit of those large dimensions for the R7. I don’t know. Maybe they’ll be able to shrink it down some before release, but it doesn’t seem like that’s a goal.

Better OLED, or a "dark mode" that goes to full brightness?
The inclusion ambient light sensor hopefully means that when an alert brings it out of dark mode it will be as bright as appropriate for conditions. I just hope they’re not using that silly light pipe they stuck on the top for rear laser detection to inform the ambient light levels, as it can and often should be mounted high up and tight against the headliner.

Is the Q-Ride (shows in upper right in video) equivalent to Savvy? Quiet ride under xx MPH?
Yes, that’s how the R3 works (has always worked I think), how the DFR9 works, and how every other modern detector with GPS/Savvy works.

Any word on a companion app? It’s the only way I see running the unit completely dark with arrows. Other than that, sounds promising.
No built-in Bluetooth was already mentioned. No plans for any external communications options have been announced. So for now at least, and probably forever, no apps.

Uniden product planning meeting:
"Well I guess we call this an R5, right?"
"No way man. This is too epic. We're bringing this up to 7!"
They should have called it the R11

I thought the exact same thing! :D

I know the R7 is the hot topic right now. But any word from Uniden on R3 updates? I saw @UnidenSupport comment on another R7 thread saying they weren’t done with R3.
What else is there to know? They’re not done. A beta firmware update is in testing now. The R3 is not being retired or discontinued. It lives on and continues to be improved.

So much for ever seeing a V2!, at least not from Valentine anyway!
What makes you say that? Why would the presence of more completion reduce the impetus to release new versions/products?

@Vortex

You mentioned there was no Bluetooth but any word on if the USB will possibly work for more than just updates?

Some sort of open API would sure be nice.
Yes, please!

Hoping this wakes Valentine up and they get with the times. Not being able to update the firmware without sending it in isn't acceptable anymore. It has been almost two years since they put out a update also.
The V1 has never required a continual stream of updates. They take a different approach, slow and steady and no release until ready. Better to be silent and thought a fool...

Wow! Sounds fantastic. I'm just blown away at how much Uniden is listening to customer feedback.
Agreed!

We really need Bluetooth and an App -- if nothing else to configure all of the settings (ala Escort 360) and ideally to save/load/backup different configs, marked locations, lockouts, etc.. Integration with Waze would be fantastic or a dedicated app with cloud sourced / community notifications / marked locations ala Escort Live. Think about this. A dedicated App with different configuration profiles which are geofenced and/or automatically deployed based on location and/or speed. better yet, cloud sources profiles for different states, regions, countries which are developed and ranked by the community that you can download / auto apply as you drive. At least add the Bluetooth hardware for $10 or whatever, and think about the software later.
Agreed!

Built in Road Cam w/detector screen video overlay? Maybe that's the R11 (-:
How cool would it be if they were at least able to integrate the detector alert info with a high quality dashcam (not the low end junk) where it overlays the display info onto the dashcam video?

Unfortunately, Escort owns the patent on built-in wireless connectivity for several more years. The best we can hope for is Uniden allowed for some sort of data connection over the RJ14 port (like ESP on the V1) to interface with a BT/WiFi/etc dongle.
That’s my sincere hope!

Nice job reporting on this @Vortex It certainly has everything we've asked and pushed for in a windshield mount detector. I will definitely buy one. THAT SAID, I find it rather fugly, seems quite large, so not sure how this is going to look below my rvm. It appears to be way larger than my V1. It almost looks like two V1 stacked on each other. Way to big IMO. Looking forward to seeing this in action and size comparisons to other detectors.

I can't see that happening in light of the current Patent litigation from ER v. Uniden in Texas District Court.

Plus , it doent do jack on MRCD/T either.
Regardless, I still get CRJ’s point.

As I’ve stated in a previous post on seperate thread “...as of this moment, the MRCD is innocous to me. It exist within my surroundings but a threat in theory; not practice”

A mature, stable platform has it’s advantages. I’m sure in due time, most of the new offerings will prove the same.

They’ve already announced auto lockouts. According the BRD they were originally waiting for initial release till the patent expired, but now it’s been pushed up and they’ll follow up later with a firmware update when appropriate/allowed. I’m just hoping the hardware is up to snuff.

Of course. Finally made the jump and had my R3 installed last week.

But there's always Christmas next year!
I know the feeling. I had a V1 a long time back and just stopped using RD's as I aged and had kids. Saw a sale on boxing day and decided to jump back into the market with an R3. It was a final sale in the fine print I didn't notice during the craziness on Boxing Day, POS systems kept crashing...). I like the R3 so far but miss the arrows something fierce. If I could I'd return it and wait for this... Judging by the anticipation in here there may be a few used R3's on the market soon. :)

As great as the V1 is, you really mean three decades ago, right??

The last decade gave us ESP, TMF1 and 2 and what else??? A BT dongle?
Nope, and thank you for providing the evidence of what VR has done over the last decade. lol

BTW, how's that super secure power cord on your R3 working out?

Mike, welcome aboard!! A used R3 is going to cover the general needs of 99.9% of the motoring population.

Heck, I might start selling Uniden now :)
Expect a back order for at least 6-8 months.

I along with everyone on this forum have been waiting for a V2 for YEARS! I don't know about anyone else, but this detector is everything I had ever hoped for from a V2, only problem is it's not coming from Valentine! So why would they do it now? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see it happen! And I am all for competition, but they will have one hell of a hill to climb, I'll tell you that! That's why I said that!

I'm going wait for testing to be done like it was with the r3 vs redline ex. My r3 though is worn out so I'm take a look at this one. Been using the V1 more lately but this unit would cause me to retire the V1 into the storage unit if it's good as promised.

For canucks buying from Kmph ....what price would it be ?

$600 us X 1.35 = $ 810 cdn ...or even higher

If we need to hide the R7 , would the rd speak loud the threat : front /rear/side ?
