Good post and video Vortex!

I have been away from the forum a while and used to be very active here and on Escort Radar forum. I lurk in every couple of months as I have been disappointing with Escort for a number of things. One of which is listening to use enthusiasts and users on what we are asking for.

However, I heard from you Vortex that Escort Live is getting a major update. This update is supposedly including what many of us have been asking for for years. This is good news.

As you said in your video Vortex, there are some features us users have been requesting for years. Here is a thread I made over 6 years ago regarding EL, many of which the features have been unfulfilled up until this point:
My suggestions/recommendations for Escort Live 2.0 - Escort Radar Forum

Id still like to see some of the things I requested in the original post in that thread when I wrote it over 6 years ago in 2012. I made even more suggestions regarding live throughout that thread. Please refer back to the original post in that thread and throughout this thread to see what I am talking about.

Three things I did not hear would happen but I would like to see happen are:

1. Integration with Waze - more users equal more alerts - crowd sourcing is not viable if not enough people use it - us radar detector users are small niche group
2. Not just crowd sourced positive/real threats but crowd sourced false alert locations. So that way when Im driving in another state and using Live the users that live there could have already done the work for me of tagging those pesky Walgreens/Walmart door openers etc.
Crowd sourced/learned false alert suppression - Escort Radar Forum
3. Object detection from dash cams (or an RD with a cam in it) to auto upload LEO locations without user input

Just finished editing the video taking a look at the new changes, interface, and features we can expect. Here ya go:

Good stuff, at least they are trying. As much as they suck in customer service you can't say that Escort doesn't innovate, or at least try to innovate. The Smartradar setup, wireless laser shifters, the entire Live paradigm, etc you don't see other RD makers taking risks like this.

I see they are using Google API's for traffic alerts, that's awesome. What I wish they could do is pull Waze alerts for police, that's it, I'd be happy with just those reports. I hope they realize that a lot of us are having a tough time constantly switching apps because iOS sucks. Although I've kind of sworn off of EL use because it's just so unsafe. Maybe they should have bought out the guy who made Escargot Drive.

Also hoping they fixed that it always defaults you back to map mode even if you just switch apps and switch back, very annoying.

Good stuff, completely agree. This is one area I really feel like Escort is attempting to innovate in. I'm all for it and would love to see others follow suit.

Recently, this is the most tangible news that has come to light. Thank you Vortex.

The more I read about this and now after having watched Vortex's video, I'm confident this is the lipstick on the pig.

There is nothing particularly innovative about the app, it's what users have been asking for since 2012. It's more likely the Escort management liquidation team made a strategic decision to invest a small amount of capital in app development so they have something new and flashy to point at when pitching their "alerts as a service" business model. I'm sure Escort's valuation will drop significantly with the expiration of the GPS patent, so this was the cheapest way they could think of to create value before a sale.

Paying a few thousand to outsource app development sure beats spending hundred of thousands on engineering and programmers to innovate new platforms/detectors or fix the ones they already have (and it's much faster, too).

Wonder if Escort has even tried submitting an application though. Would be IMO a marketing bonus for them to be the only manufacturer with CP/AA integration. Safer to interact with, esp with larger on screen buttons. Think it would also drive furtheruse of the platform, eg for reporting detections, spotting cops. Would also facilitate switching back and forth between EL and Waze.

Fingers crossed they do this.
This app for Apple should make sense as a natural Car Play deal. Again, Apple supported ER with allowing EL placed on Apple Watch. It works on my Apple Watch. Car Play would be more relevant than Apple Watch for this automotive app than someone else’s non automotive focused app. But, this would be logical. Who says anyone is logical these days?

I find EL very useful in conjunction with Apple Watch. No matter how distracting the environment, the vibration feedback punches through. Paired with the February 1st app updates on the phone; this should be an efficient way to communicate all threats & warnings via the senses.

Good video.
Honestly I don’t see myself interacting with this app other then running it in the background. Waze will always be my primary. If they were able to incorporate Waze they would have something otherwise.. meh.

I was hoping to see false lockout crowdsourcing. So when I’m in an area I’ve never been to before the lockouts would push to my Max360 from the app.

Watched the video, thanks @Vortex , and am hopeful this will be much improved. Many of the things I though were "no brainers" look to have been implemented. The app needs to be more fluid and "real time".

I wonder if there is any way to mark or indicate LEO's moving in the opposite direction. Not every encounter is stationary! I guess we will see.

I run both EL and Waze side by side. I get most of my alerts from Waze now. Hardly anything from EL. But I'll give it a chance.

Seeing that Google are slowly adding more features from Waze into Google Maps app, I'd say there is no good reason to support Waze for any app developers anymore, just need to wait a few more months until Google will finish adding all reporting features into Google Maps.

Yeah I'm hoping Google incorporates police alerts into their maps app, which is far superior to Waze. Police reports might be a bit too non PC for Google though, and they would most likely kill Waze at that point, although it's their company to keep or fold into Google Maps as they see fit. Google likes to have multiple redundant apps for everything though.

Oh cool this is public now. So yeah, Escort doesn't have any new products they'll be announcing at CES, but they're completely revamping Escort Live apparently. The idea is thinking of the software as a service. They don't have a booth at CES this year, but they do have some meeting rooms like last year, primarily for meetings instead of showing off products, but I will be stopping by there to take a look at what they have in mind regarding the changes for Escort Live (and iRadar).

On a sort of related note, but I don't know (yet) how much of this is going to be implemented, when I was in West Chester and spoke with the engineers off camera, they have a LOT of data they've collected over the years and they can do some really creative stuff with it. The app itself has been pretty stagnant up to this point, but if they wanted to, they could do some really cool stuff with all the data. (I don't remember how much of the brainstorm ideas were meant to be public info at this point, but I'm sure you guys could think of most of the same ideas too.) :)

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

On a related note, anyone got suggestions or ideas for things you're hoping to see in this new version of Escort Live?

I'm hoping for things like arrows to be displayed in the app (that data is already being transmitted from the Max360 series detectors anyways), nationwide lockouts derived from the cloud, and detectors that can program themselves to turn bands/segments on and off depending on where you drive. Basically tighter integration with the RD to give us something more than a more automated form of Waze.
Is the new version of live not gonna repeatedly asked me to register it if im just wanting to use it for a concealed display? I'm not wanting to pay for live alerts I just want to use it as a concealed display and the dang thing asks me like a 1000 times in a row to register.

I think incorporating distinctive Waze features into Google Maps could jeopardize the relevancy of Waze. Would be cool, though I believe it’s unlikely to happen. Nevertheless, this really is a cool announcement overall

Hmm, I kinda thought EL was useless but today on the way to work I had 2 EL alerts that ended up being accurate for LEO's hiding out. Must be quota time!
I am looking forward to this update. This feels like the second edition of the 360. I’m just gonna focus on this and ignore all the other noise.

I feel the reason Escort needs to push into an app EscortLive v2.0 world, their auto lockouts patent is ending, they need something else to run with. Other than third party, no other manufacture has a proper working mobile interface with communications, driver alert updates, and more. VR should buy into JBV1 adoption which would hurt Escorts Attempt, but now up to a community V1 users since developed for.

If all Radar detector manufacturers open their api, think about what a JBV1 could do to the industry... Be an EPIC user save.

As far as I am concerned the best thing they can do is not to re-invent the app. Moreover, make the app work in "CARPLAY"

Anyone notice that the app isn’t working?
They must be getting ready to do the upgrade.
