I have an Uniden R1BBY that I purchased just for my weekly Ontario runs from Detroit, Michigan USA to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. My trusty Valentine One is just too easy to detect by Spectre Elite. I figured I would share my R1 detector settings for those doing the 401QEW in Ontario. I have experienced mostly laser detection, with very little radar used by the OPP. The OPP seem to use radar only when they are rolling.

Now this is for the R1, but can also be used for the GPS R3 model as well.

Sensitivity Mode – Advanced Mode Ka @ 100%, K @ 70%

Voice – Off

K Band – On

Ka Band – on

Laser – On (I keep my detector out of sight on my seat. Optimal placement still yields poor alerts.)

MRCD – Off

K POP – Off

Ka POP – Off

K Filter – On

Ka Filter – Off

TSF – Off (Not needed on this stretch of the 401QEW)

K Wide

Ka Segmentation 2,5,6 & 8 On, the others Off.

All Threat – On

Display Color – Blue

Mode Display

Tones – Default

Auto Mute – Off

Backlight – Off

Self Test - Off

Again, these are MY settings and I make zero claims that it will prevent anyone from lauding a love note from the OPP. I also suggest when traveling you keep your speed no more than 40KPH above speed limit. 50KPH will land you a "Stunt Driving" citation and very bad things happen when caught at 50 over. Try not to behave like a detector equipped vehicle, keep the detector hidden from view. It could be a very expensive trip to get a speeding ticket, detector ticket & confiscation of your detector. ~ Radman

I would run KA wide due to drift concerns. I've seen it happen myself.

I do agree with you and actually made the change just prior to reading this post. Great minds think slowly.

Hey so I follows the settings here and not a single Peel police crusier or opp crusier had alerted the radar yet. What gives? It was able to detect one of those residential radar signs from like a kilometre away. Hoping you guys can help me here.

Most LEOs either don't have radar or aren't transmitting their guns. Radar use in Ontario, especially on the highways, is in decline.
