I've convinced a friend to invest in a TMG system and we are talking head number / placement. I want your opinions.

It's for a 2015 Tahoe.

There aren't many options for the rear, but the front is up for debate. I'm thinking 4 heads but then specific placement is my question.

I'm sure it's out there but does anyone recall the max/min separation of the heads?

I'm attaching photos, hope I dont mess this up. I'm on mobile :(.

Many thanks RDF!

I'm not sure there is a lot of 3 head test data available yet for TMG, and I don't know of any 4 head testing being published. It sounds like a good idea but if it were me I'd hold off a bit until more info is available.

I had a few SUV's in the south florida meetup with TMG triples: www.rdforum.org: South Florida 2018 Holiday Lidar Testing Meet Results The explorer did really well with the threee sensors in a row, the highlander with the deep V did ok except draogon eye. To start I would say three in a line, or super shallow V, outer one's maybe inline with the emblem and one just below it. Four heads might be needed, hard to say as there isn't a lot of data on that yet, see how three does, it's easy enough to move them around and add one more if testing suggests it's needed. the rear you have limited options so what you have might be the best bet, a dual will PT pretty easily against dragoneye on a large vehicle so a Third is needed

.....To start I would say three in a line.....
I have a small car with inverted V, and the bigger SUV with 3 in a line outperformed me! I am extremely happy with my results from @thebravo test (he posted links above). He is very unbiased, owns another company's system, but I'd consider him an expert on placement with the TMGs with all the different set-up he has tested. Most of us only know our own system. But I would move my heads to where ever @thebravo suggests. I know there are other Advanced Users that have done a lot of testing, I just have personally met him and you can tell he is an Engineer!

I would start here and I think it would be good! I would go ALP and use their TX sensor for the center if it were me though--

Ditto @Holla placement suggestion.

I wouldn't necessarily panic and hit the ALP purchase just yet. The TMG price point is pretty good, it'll cover you on most guns plus we need more of them deployed and reporting in so we get a better profile of how they perform in the wild. Testing's one thing, real words something else.

Thank you all. He travels a fair amount and will most likely see all VPR guns. He actually wants to go TMG over ALP. Not cost related. I will see what kind of testing he can do.

I've tested both 3-head and 4-head TMG on SUV and Pickup Truck. Videos are available.

You have to go with 4 up front on a vehicle that size, I'd say go with your green dots to start with.

Could you link 4 head testing videos? We are close to buying the setup

I can tell you right now with that big front end and VPR Guns, he needs a minimum of 6 heads and if it were me and there was any chance of dragons, 7 (4Ft/3Rr). He needs 4 heads up front in the pattern of your green dots (but if it were me, I would raise the top ones one more row up and lower the bottom ones one row down. YMMV. With the limited data we have so far, testing after the install is important if at all possible. I needed 4 heads up front to be covered on my Expedition (was JTG except on the Dragon that had some PT at 300 and 150 feet). A fourth head is a whole lot cheaper than a Lidar ticket especially if one is already in there pulling cables in my opinion.

Agreed. a quad on a large suv is gonna be the bare minimum. At least until a VPR head comes out, 4 heads up front for sure if you got VPR guns hitting you, and I could see the need to go 5 or 6 on a tahoe or expedition.
