Can’t wait to see your new setup video, but from the one pic.....the screens on the left and right look like a crook might think they can yank and steal them. The view from outside the car is more important than the view the one pic shows.
I dunno if it works that way since it looks integrated from the outside too, but either way, when I head back next week, we're going to redo the display placement and lower them so this won't be an issue. Thanks for sharing your concern though. :)

Install is essentially done. I went back again yesterday to complete the install. We're doing perspex covers for both the front and rear jammers, the display mounts have been updated, we've added a removable cover for the ALP and Max Ci controller, etc. I'm working on a video (without this week's latest changes) that should be up within a couple days or so.

Driving back this morning, I got another quick PL3 encounter. Waze alerted me first, then the R3 and Max Ci 360 went off to 33.8, then the ALP (jamming) and Max Ci 360 (detecting only for Live alerts) both went off. It was a really quick encounter, but it's nice to see both the ALP LED on the left going off in Pro Mode and the Escort LED on the right blinking for the laser alerts. The Escort also alerts front and rear for radar with that same LED.

I'm excited about getting the install videos finished and up online.

  • Giant Horses Ass Award
So in the next couple months, I'd like to trade my Miata in for an SUV. The Miata is a blast to drive, but I'd like something with more room now (both for people and CM's).

Edit: You guys are asking good questions, so here's a quick summary of what I'm looking for

Requirements:
  • AWD SUV or wagon
  • Something suitable for RD/LJ testing and shooting videos
  • A grill that makes it easy to install stuff
  • No K band BSM built in (non-K band BSM is okay)
  • Cig. lighter conveniently located under stereo somewhere
  • Ideally no pop up screen on top of the stereo area
  • Price ~$40k'ish, but I'm flexible
  • Finance instead of lease
  • New or CPO
  • Keep for 5-8 years?
The grill is definitely a big factor because I need to be able to install not only my ALP's, but toss different remote RD's and jammers in the grill too for testing. For my Miata I can throw remotes down in the lower air intake, but my grill I had to have custom holes cut in the grill for my ALP's and it prevents me from being able to easily toss on and compare other jammers for testing.

I stopped by a few dealerships this afternoon and found a couple other things that'd be helpful that I didn't think about initially. Things like not having a super steeply raked windshield. I'd like to be able to reach a RD on the lower part of the windshield. I'm honestly not sure how realistic that is and I'm beginning to better appreciate remote mute buttons on the cig. lighter cable, but I really would like this ability to show myself hitting buttons and locking out signals on camera, for example. Speaking of which, multiple cig. lighter plugs would be a huge plus, as well as one conveniently located where I can hit the RD remote mute button, speaking of which.

Anything with K band BSM is 100% out. I can't have anything falsing my RD's for videos. Same thing for heated windshields that block radar.

I like the Hyundai Santa Fe, but the redesigned chain-mail style mesh grill wouldn't allow me to easily mount remote RD's. I can do jammers, but not RD's.

The Ford Explorer is similar, but a little better on the grill situation, depending on the trim. There are some spots I can install RD's, but jammers may be a little tricky, depending on which style grill I get. I'm open to aftermarket grills as needed. Something like an Explorer, which has been around a while, this should be easier to get one with normal horizontal grill slats.

I looked at the Ford Edge today too and it isn't one I was looking at before. It's a little more compact than the Explorer (I don't necessarily think I'll need the third row). The big selling point is a more traditional horizontal grill that'd make it easier to install gear. I'm looking at the higher end trims with leather and whatnot (for the dog), but there's these active grill shutters behind the grill itself which'll open and close and I think they will interfere with equipment installed in my grill. The cig. lighter plug situation isn't super convenient either.

What else could work? Maybe something from Toyota? Mazda and Honda are out due to BSM's.
I love my Volvo xc60 the BSM uses 72ghz radar so no interference.

You should get an Acura MDX, and let us know what detectors don't drive you batshit crazy.
