So I took my iPhone in for the almost free battery under the power issue. They could not fix the issue with a new battery so I received a brand new same model phone (wish they would have allowed me to pay a little something and upgrade at the same time). So when I got home, I could not install my phone backup on the new phone. Support said it was from my backup being a too much higher OS then the new phone which came from the factory with the highest 11.x.x on it. So I had to setup the phone like it was a brand new phone which of course put 12.1.2 on it, then I was able to backup all my programs, addresses, etc on the phone. Now for the issue:

When in the Expedition, enabling Apple CarPlay, setting the Audio input to AUX for my XM Satellite, then starting Wayes as I always do, now this disables the XM Satellite Audio the second Wayes come up. If I select Home, pick AUX for the XM Satellite again, the display clears and says no video, and Wayes goes away. If I tap the Wayes Icon down the left side of the Apple CarPlay interface Wayes comes back but again the XM Audio goes away. If I start Tidal either before or after Wayes, it works fine exactly how XM used to work before 12.1.2.

Anybody else seeing issues with Apple CarPlay after moving up to IOS 12.1.2? Any suggestions or possible solutions?

I have nothing to offer about your specific issue.
I was excited about CarPlay. Then I realized the screen on my car is too low to see out of the corner of my eye for cop spotting on Waze. I reverted to my dash mount with Bluetooth. It keeps my phone high and more left then the CarPlay screen.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Probably best to check with some Ford forums. This wont help you but I just changed iphones, currently rumming iOS version 12.1.2 and had zero issues, with BMW idrive 6. I always use ICloud to backup as I found Itunes unreliable so after backuping up and then restoring it was a breeze. Waze and google maps work fine, my only complaint is bmw wont let non bmw apps to fill the whole screen, only about 3/4 max...

I’ve got 12.1.2 on my GMC Denali. Waze and XM are working fine.

Thanks, Ford Forum isn't going to be any help as my Expedition came with a factory 2DIN 6 CD changer AM/FM radio. I installed a 7 inch Excelon DMX-905S 2DIN Head Unit. I think it might be time to switch to non-laptop backup.

I’ve got 12.1.2 on my GMC Denali. Waze and XM are working fine.

OK, but is you XM part of your Head Unit? My XM is the separately mounted Onyx that was in my Expedition when I had to use the radio receiver tuned to 88.8 to get it over using the rf modulator. It is still the Onyn but now since the DMX-905S new head unit has AUX in, it goes straight in now. It was all working perfectly until I took my phone into have the battery replaced. The only reason I didn't upgrade to the XM module in the DMX-905S is that I can remove the Onyx and bring it in the house IE I have only one XM account.

I guess I have a last resort solution if I don't find an answer, move my subscription to the XM internal module then add the $2.95 a month Internet add-on subscription to stream in the house. But still hoping to find why I can't just have it the way it was?!

Yeah, mine has the XM in the head unit. I think with that setup using the AUX in, that system is either going to be using the AUX as a source or the internal. But, not both at the same time.

Problem solved. For anybody with a Kenwood Head Unit or other head unit that can run Weblink, do not ever select the Waze Icon that is native to the display or in Weblink, ALWAYS wait until Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is actively up and running. I do not have Weblink installed (which is what I was instructed to not do) and what I did from the built-in Head Unit Icon list was accidentally tapped the internal Waze icon. After doing this several times trying to figure out what was wrong or going on, it became the most selected option and had been moved to the front of the selection queue and since the CarPlay Waze Icon looks just like the Head Unit/Weblink Waze Icon, I had no idea that the head unit was trying to start and use Weblink and no longer talking to my Apple iPhone via CarPlay which is why I could only do one or the other and not both. HD Radio, XM, and my FLAC files are back now while running all my Apple CarPlay Apps and the Weblink Waze Icon has been moved to the last page of selectable Icons never to be tapped again!

I know you are using a non Ford factory system. By coincidence, using my Ford car play, using Waze, I will get the radio to switch from XM (or FM), right to some random AM station when Waze audio GPS direction is going. Weird. I need to update Sync 3 FW and see what happens.
