Howdy,

Got a speeding ticket today for 81MPH in a 55MPH on the Long Island Expressway Eastbound in Brookhaven, NY today. I was traveling alone in the HOV lane with minimal cars on the road. There was a car in #1 and #2 lanes next to me.

Speed was recorded with LTI Truspeed. Obviously it goes without saying that I am kicking myself for putting off an ALP purchase and not using common sense on an empty highway in an unfamiliar place. Waze and V1 were silent. No dashcam.

Violation is attached. Looking for any insight that I might not have considered. I am planning to plead not guilty via certified mail tomorrow morning and then hire an attorney. If you have a recommendation, I am open to calling more people (I have two attorneys in mind to call).

Two important things to note:
- Supporting deposition under "Additional Information" says Westbound instead of Eastbound (clerical mistake)
- Officer put my registration as NY instead of PA but put the correct license plate # (clerical mistake)

Questions:
- Do any of these clerical mistakes matter?
- Does LTI Truspeed need to be calibrated? If so, how often?

Thanks!

Waze and V1 were silent. I noticed the officer roughly 1,500 feet away and slowed down, so he must have shot me at a considerable distance. I do not have a dashcam though so this is all from my recollection.

Violation is attached. Looking for any insight that I might not have considered. I am planning to plead not guilty via certified mail tomorrow morning and then hire an attorney. And another from Google that has good reviews regarding moving violations (also has office near courthouse). If you have a recommendation, I am open to calling more people.

Two important things to note:
- Supporting deposition under "Additional Information" says Westbound instead of Eastbound (clerical mistake)
- Officer put my registration as NY instead of PA but put the correct license plate # (clerical mistake)

And would remove the friend of a friend info since this is a public thread
And any personal ticket identity info

If you have 0 points you may be able to get it reduced without an attorney
You wont beat it
Only have it reduced to a non moving and keep it off your insurance

Then buy a 2 head Alp at minimum from here
www.bestradardetectors.net: AL Priority Parking System - Starter System w/1 CPU & 1 Sensor

Tried to re-attach. Hopefully that worked. Removed the info you suggested. Can you delete your quote of me on your post so that the reference is gone?

I have no points and a clean record. Really just want to avoid an insurance hike at all costs.

Info removed
Ticket will stand
Call the courthouse and tell them your job is at risk can they drop the points or change to non moving
If impossible
Learning all you can about NY traffic law then asking the ADA when you get court if theyll let you
The judge if they wont for a non moving first offense deal

Ah damn sorry to hear man. They use lidar all the time out there. Definitely should have got yourself a set of parking sensors but lets deal with this first. Two options. Go with what choose life said and try to get it down to a non moving violation and just pay or since it's Suffolk you can hire a lawyer and let them do it. Might cost more but saves you any insurance issues.

Even with the new way of doing things here I doubt this turns into an expensive parking ticket, but it's possible. Best bet is a Lawyer. Give a call to Alber Law Group in Commack.

You can try going in and getting it knocked down and then request a hearing if you dont like the offer. At that point you can hire a lawyer. Otherwise go the straight lawyer route.

Side note, I mentioned in the Long Island thread that LIDAR is off the charts here in Suffolk lately. For anyone reading this thread, unless you're running CMs, don't push it out here.

Ended up with a VERY expensive parking ticket...

It could have paid for about half of a 2Rx/ 1Tx ALP system but at least now I know that its a necessity. Had to learn the hard way.

Thanks to everyone who provided advice.

Did you go the lawyer route? Would you recommend him?

An expensive Parking ticket is better than a fine, pts, and an insurance increase!

Yeah, that sounds like the best possible outcome irrespective of the $$ spent. I would be pleased.

As @thanks suggests, you should fill in the blanks on how you won this so others might benefit from a good referral in the future.

Yes, I used a Suffolk county lawyer. A friend of a friend who did it as a favor but I’ll be throwing him a few hundred bucks as a thank you.

Would 100% do the same thing again.

@JDG glad you didn't have to incur any points and just paid the fine and your friend. Didn't see this post until now.

@maxka could have been worse and it's a good thing Nassau/Suffolk allow lawyers. NYC blows ..
