My SUV flat out will get to 140mph into the wind in a half mile standing start - 150 isn't that far fetched.

Once you get over 120 physics is definitely against you, and due to the lack of aerodynamics you need a fair bit of power to push aside the air.

About 1200whp in a 2.5T vehicle will get you to 180 in a half mile.

At night, they LEO has a lot of advantages. Darkness and the terrain. If he/she knows how to use these advantages to their favor, they will defeat any radar detector assuming one does not have a rabbit in front.

I own a Yukon XL with a Blackbear tune and I don’t doubt it can do 150. As for the NY terrain I have no idea what that’s like in regards to get up to 150.

I’m mostly into heavily modified diesels with super charged big block Chevys being an added bonus. I’m always trying to learn new things. What does Blackbear change other than removing the speed limiter. I’ve always been taught that it’s easy to add 150 hp to a stock diesel with just a tune, but with gas you might get 20 hp. I’m not arguing, just sharing my understanding and curiosity

Me too. It’s peaked my curiosity. I’ve never heard of the name. Maybe the name of the tuner himself might jog my memory. Then again, I really don’t follow what Chevy has been doing lately.

What does the Blackbear Tune actually do? Who does it? Done on a dyno?

Any supporting mods to achieve 150 mph? That’s a big number that will need some other mods than just a tune.

even if a yukon can achieve a consistent 150 mph with mods you would run out of gas every 30 minutes making any gains negligible.

People that want to travel at 150 should either by an efficient sports car or a motorcycle.

I thought motorcycle’s don’t get that good of MPG. With an even smaller tank, wouldn’t it be bad for the motorcycle too? I wouldn’t honestly know as I haven’t owned a motorcycle nor ever seen any stats for MPG over a sustained 150mph run.

I had the blackbear on my Tahoe. It was suppose to improve the shift points and remove the limiter. They sent a scan cable and had you do different runs and you would get a “custom’ tune. Honestly, you didn’t notice much. But like you already know playing with the stuff, until you get into FI gas and Diesel engines, tunes don’t do much.

Perhaps with a V1 you would have noticed him hunting earlier

Motorcycles get excellent gas milage for the performance, my bike is big and heavy with a 1400cc motor and 160 HP(probably about 130 to the wheel) , but even then, even with the windshield fully raised, I get 32 mpg at 100 mph , at 120 I would get about 25-30 mpg.

Sport touring bikes have bigger tanks, my tank holds 5.5 gallons, the FJR 1300 holds 6.5 gallons , a full tank of gas at an average of 100 mph would give me about 200 miles or so.

At 150 mph my bike would probably bottom out to possibly 20 mpg , still better than a any car probably, on a ZX14.,busa or H2 it is probably even more economical.

As an added bonus the cop won't even bother chasing you at that speed on a motorcycle, specially if you hide the tag.

That's what I was thinking but some of the responses would lead you to believe it was something special. I have EFIlive which is what blackbear seems to be using. Obviously not a wiz bang silver bullet then, but just cleaning up the factory tune and not gonna give an otherwise stock Tahoe 150+mph capability. Thanks for sharing and educating an old gearhead

Yep, Even with all that range I/O is still a killer. He spotted you coming up fast and hit the button. It happens to the best of us somedays, at least since you had the R3 you know that it wasn't a range issue, you had the best range you could have had, there was no beating this particular I/O, he was being selective enough. If you had a lesser detector you would be left wondering if more range would have helped. I/O is the worst. Fight the ticket and get it reduced!
If You are thinking about taking it to court check out the book titled "The rules of the game by J Scott Stevens.
Kindle has it and it's well worth the read IMO.

Tahoe at 150 mph would need turbo or blower and be rated 500+ hp. Can't beat wind resistance without pure power and lots of road.
Hoe would be unstable as heck.
I have a tuned F150 ecoboost pushing 425 hp and 500 ft/lbs torque. Upgraded suspension.
Speed limiter off on a 3 kilometer straight tops out 220 kph. (137 mph)
With the exponential increase of hp vs. resistance the Tahoe has a long way to go past mine.
You want bad mileage, just tow a big flat front travel trailer, 30 liters/100km (8 mpg)
I could never drive fast enough empty to almost triple my fuel use.
136 liter fuel tank though.
The motorbike gets 5.5 liters/100 km @ 130 kph.
