Okay, after Google killed KML a few years back the RDFGS v1 has been more or less offline since then.

The RDFGS v1 is very basic and nowadays, is even more so, after I had to gut certain parts of it due to KML dissolution, vBulletin de-integration with our Wiki, and a couple other things.

So, I have the RDFGS v1 back up in it's most basic form. It is EXTREMELY BASIC and is hardly a twinkle in the eye of what RDFGS v2 is going to be. But regardless, here's the access information to it:

To view the RDFGS v1, click here: www.rdforum.org: RDF Geographical Survey

To edit the RDFGS v1, click here: www.rdforum.org: RDFGS Authentication

RDFGS v1 viewing is open to the public. You must be an Intermediate+ member to edit the RDFGS v1.

I'm not going to do much with RDFGS v1 from here forward because the RDFGS v2 is going to be light-years beyond what RDFGS v1 is/what it was meant to be. And with the RDFGS v2 project starting right after we launch XF 2.0 on RDF, messing around with RDFGS v1 would just be a waste of time - coding wise. But, of course, the data is the important part. At least you guys have access to it now, and are able to edit it now.

So yeah, I can't stress how basic the RDFGS v1 is, especially in its current state as mentioned above. But regardless, it is what it is! I really look forward to the launch of development RE RDFGS v2 :).

Thanks!

Good stuff.

I will probably do a few touch ups to beautify the system a little bit, but not until after I'm done with a couple current things I'm working on (VPN & Seafile stuff), including integrating the new map API into it so the viewer pages for individual states have their maps drawn/colored etc. But either way, the data is the important stuff right now, so at least you guys have the ability to view/edit that.

Nice. Looks like I need to do some driving before I move to get more added.

Thank you!! This is a super helpful resource for people, even in its super basic state. :) Plus having it up online now means that we can all continue updating it and once you're ready with RDFGS v2, it'll have all the up to date info within it. :)

Question:
Especially in rural areas, how should we add the county specifically?
Might I suggest that we order the list first alphabetically by county and THEN alphabetically by city so we can put the county sheriff information as the first listing for each county? Just like was done for state police.

In rural counties, it's the Sheriff you are worried about.

I am probably a year or two away to getting to Intermediate, will there be a thread I can post data to? The JBV1 app is making it very easy to capture data of all Freq's in use,

These are all good suggestions for RDFGS v2. Making these kinds of changes is just not worth it for RDFGS v1 - I will have the functionality that RDFGS v1 has, in RDFGS v2, very early on in the development, so issues like this will be able to be addressed/actually used in a "production-like" environment (basically, alpha stages of development, using real data).

But, what you are asking for, is really how the KML maps were generated - seen here:

92713.png

Of course, this is disabled because Google killed their KML API. This may be something that I do bring back to the RDFGS v1 in its current form - sooner than later - because I found an alternate map integration source (the one pictured here above) which wouldn't require a lot of code to re-integrate...

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

Also, as stated in the RDFGS v1:

"Note: If no city is entered, the county name will be used for this field."

Does this not do essentially what you're looking for?

I told you guys this would be a very bland/crude re-integration of RDFGS v1, in the mean time, just for data sake.

Yes, I can enter the county but it's hard to find on the list. An ordering change would fix it. Making it a different color or bolding the county listing would work too, with or without an "ORDER BY county, city" change.

I realize RDFGS 2.0 is on the way and you don't want to put a lot of work into 1.0. I just figured this wouldn't be a big change. I might be mistaken.

So you want it ordered by County and then by City?

It makes it easier for me to search by county first, then see what cities in the county have data. In FL, I just realised Melbourne is on there, a city close to me.

Yes,
IMO, that would be best. I think it's way easier.
Bolding the county listing would be great too.

ETA:
It also makes more sense in that all the cities in a county may be patrolled by the county division of LE. I only have to find a city and scroll up to see what the county LE uses.

Maybe I'll convert the table over to a datatable like we use for our SD team... i.e. DataTables | Table plug-in for jQuery - where you guys can actually sort the data. That shouldn't be too hard to integrate and would get you what you guys need, yes?

I'd be fine with that, sure. It would be great if it would allow you to "Sort by [column1] then by [column2]" but it appears to only sort one column. Still should work pretty good for what we need though.

ETA: After reading further down in your link, it does provide for multiple column ordering. Great!

Will RDFGS-v2 support your neighbours to the north?

Nah, it's just too difficult to incorporate "provinces". I vote for removing Louisiana too on account of it using "parish" just to be different.

Speaking of updating, if you guys have some free time, it'd be extremely helpful if you could go through the RDFGS thread where people have been posting updates while the RDFGS was down.

www.rdforum.org: Presenting The RDF Geographical Survey (Version 1.0)

You can go through there and start adding the posted information into the RDFGS now that it's back up and editable once again. :)
