I try to be careful with what I say or write about Waze as they are quick to remove people from their Beta program, but I have seen this posted elsewhere. I am currently testing a RC (Release Candidate) that has Voice Reporting. I think this is a pretty cool feature coming! This means you will soon using Waze to understand your voice reports better (accidents, police, traffic and hazards). For example: “report an accident”, “there’s a cop”, “report a standstill traffic jam”, “report stopped vehicle”, "major accident" etc.

Only downside so far for me, have to have "Jane" voice selected, and me and Kate (UK) have been in a very long term relationship... But that is common to test with one voice, then enable it on all. Currently only in English. I think this well help the entire CSA community. I no longer test for Google, but they are trying to implement reporting into Google Maps, and it will end up into the Waze Data. Win/Win.

Just a little Public Service Announcement.

That would be great! There are times where I will not report something due to safety, which the voice reporting should completely eliminate!

Another cool thing is that Waze voice commands in general work even when the voice comes from another app running on the same device.

Hmm... “Hey Siri” type integration would be nice.

That's weird. I thought Waze had that for years already. Seriously. I've tried it.

Matter of fact, Johnboy00 and I exchanged a few sentences about it so I'm sure it's not just me experiencing a Mandela effect. :)

Ok slight correction, this is an improvement on a very similar feature already implemented in some versions, it is being changed and you will no longer have to do confirmation and have a complete conversation with waze to make the report. As long as you're not a baby you can just report something and you're done. They have turned on and off the feature for a couple years depending what release you have but this is going to be a significant change for the better.

So I just did some digging in the app and found the voice command and turned it on - will have to try it on the drive home today!

Ppl prob already know this, but you can tap the orange report dot on the bottom right when you mark your post but then take your time to fill out the rest when you are in a safer area. I've waited 30 seconds or more - or I'll tap and then let my GF fill out the rest down the road. Didnt know about voice though! Looking forward to giving it a shot.

Is this a new feature? I was playing with it about a month or two, trying to figure out the exact commands. It's something like "Hey Waze" and then "Report police ahead." When she repeats it back and asks you to confirm that she got the right command, you respond "Yes."

So it works, but I don't wind up using it much because there's 3 different steps and sometimes she doesn't hear me so I don't really use it in practice and I don't remember if those are even the exact words to use. Nevertheless, voice alerts are definitely a great idea.

What are the improvements with the new RC? Maybe more commands we can use to report police?

In the RC I'm testing, the confirm is gone. "Hey Waze, report police." That's it. Icon appears....

It used to ask major or minor traffic, now it defaults to minor unless you say major traffic. Old issue was it would time out and the report would never make it uploaded.

Does the make since?

On iPhone you have to turn on the setting. It's "Okay Waze".
