Greetings RDF!

WINTER IS COMING HERE! Unfortunately, Game of Thrones is not... BUT THAT'S OKAY! It's time for our annual RDF Winter Charity Raffle! And we have a ton of great items in play this year.

rdfraf2019.png

This year we have decided to make a couple simple changes to the way we operate events such as this. We have been taking a look at different ways on how to prevent just some random person from the web joining RDF solely for the raffle, and snagging an item and never being seen again. Obviously there's a few ways to do this rather easily but usually at the expense of being too restrictive. Therefore (and this is still not completely bulletproof - we'll never be able to make it perfect) we have decided this event (the RDF 2019 Winter Charity Raffle) will be available to Beginner users and above, as well as RDF Premium Members. If you fall into one of these categories, chances are that you are here for the long run, and not a random passer-by. Again, it's not a fool-proof system, but it is what it is!

Anyway, onto the good stuff! For those of you who are new to RDF as of this year, every year we get together and do a raffle/charity/donation drive where we raise money for server/licensing fees and for a cause that is close to our hearts. What we do is take 50% of the proceeds from the raffle and put it towards a charity, and take the other 50% and put it towards RDF's platform/services fees (which end up getting rolled into the monthly donation goals, so come 2019 there will be a few months that I expect will already be funded and we won't need to collect donations for).

The past few years we've donated to various animal shelters/charities, namely the ASPCA (my God they won't stop sending me flyers and donation requests, lol). This time around, it was suggested that we donate to DAV - DAV.org - Disabled American Veterans Charity - Disabled American Veterans. Interestingly, after talking with a couple people here about it, we actually have a few members here that have affiliated with DAV in the past - which is very cool. They are a great organization which helps disabled veterans (obviously) which is something I personally feel rather strongly about. Therefore, per our Winter Charity guidelines, 50% of the proceeds of this event will be donated to DAV on behalf of RDF - on behalf of all of you! So just know that if you participate in this raffle in any way shape or form, you are supporting DAV and that is something to be proud of! And we are proud of our community for making all this happen!

davmain.png

While DAV will receive the bulk of our charitable donation, we will also be donating 10 TOMLOV Pet Puppy Dog Outdoor Backpacks to my local animal shelter, the Williamson County Animal Center. These pet backpacks were donated by @Blueskysea (dashcam vendor - and we thank them for that) and instead of raffling them off to RDF members who will most likely not have a use for them, as stated they are being donated to my local animal shelter where they can be put to good use. But that's not the end of that! Instead of raffling off the pet backpacks, RDF will be providing a mystery tech item in place of each backpack, at 3x the value of the backpack! You may be asking yourself, what exactly is a mystery tech item..? It could be a dash cam, or a Google Home, or something else. Regardless, it will be in the $75 value range, and will be somewhat relevant to what we discuss here on RDF.

As far as the other 50% goes, well, let's just say that come 2019, prepare to have your RDF mind blown. We WILL be going forward with the forum platform upgrade to XenForo 2.0, from 1.x, which means this site is going to have a major makeover (don't worry, I'm keeping it in the same light as what the site currently looks like), along with many new functions/features, the CMS will be back up and 100% integrated with the forum (this is really cool - I have been playing around with this the past couple weeks on a sandbox copy of the forum here at home, and it's great), along with a bunch of new improvements and customizations - seriously more than I can mention. We will finally have a LIGHT and DARK theme! One big change is that the mobile version of the site will work almost just like Tapatalk does (in a good way) - XenForo 2.0 is heavily geared towards mobile browser enhancements, and that is going to be very important with the upcoming RDFGS 2.0 project as well.

These things cost money - forum software platform license upgrades, premium addons (currently we have roughly 80 installed on RDF), addon bundles, themes for stylizing purposes, etc. The XenForo 2.0 upgrade will be somewhat of an investment, however there couldn't be a better time to do it - coinciding with our Winter Charity Raffle. Our part of the proceeds will absolutely cover the fees we need to have covered, and there will probably be a couple of months going forward that are funded by the remainder as well - so a few months without having to set donation goals.

So that's what's on the horizon! Please check the fall update thread in the Announcements section for more details about all of the above changes I've been talking about - I go more in-depth over in that thread :).

With that all being said, here's the...

You guys all know Tom - @BestRadarDetectors - he is one of our favorite vendors/MFGs. Tom operates Best Radar Detectors, Top Reviews, Laser Jammers and Accessories and was one of the very first vendors we had on RDF, roughly 9 years ago. We have a lot of history with him but he has never let this community down and we are honored to have him in representation of his company here on RDF! -xydrine

Raffle Details & Purchasing Instructions

Again, remember that the requirements for entering the raffle are you must be a Beginner user or above or an RDF Premium Member.

The raffle drawing will take place at MIDNIGHT EST on 1/1/2019. You may purchase tickets all the way up to 11:00PM on 12/31/2018 (1 hour before the drawing).

The raffle drawing will happen automatically by the system - each user may only win 1 item. The most valuable items are drawn first.

The winners will be posted in a brand new thread in the forum's Announcements section, automatically, here: www.rdforum.org: Announcements, Rules & Regulations

Any person who wins a raffle prize (intangible prizes only) and already has the benefit of that specific raffle prize (i.e. a lifetime premium member wins a lifetime premium membership), the cash value of the prize as we have previously determined will be sent to the individual via PayPal or Google Wallet instead.

All prizes are final!

The moment the ball drops in New York City to usher in the new year, this raffle will end and the winners will be posted!

--

To purchase raffle tickets, simply follow these steps:

1.) First, purchase RDF Tickets through this page: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?credits/buy-credit
2.) Second, exchange the newly purchased RDF Tickets for Raffle Tickets through this page: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?raffles-details/&raffle_id=8 (head to the bottom and follow the instructions)

In the holiday spirit? You can also gift RDF Tickets to other people! If you want to do that, head to this link to do so: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?credits/transfer - be sure to have the person you gifted tickets to use them on the raffle entry page here, of course!

Thank you!

To be clear, there’s no cap on the overall number of tickets sold nor to any one individual, right?

Super excited for this raffle again. Wasn't one of the lucky ones last year, so here I go again. RDF's raffles always benefit everybody in the end which is why I support them. Good luck to everybody!

Huge thanks to all the vendors and individuals who have provided the raffle prizes! And thanks @xydrine and any other RDF staff who have helped organize this. I’ll certainly be throwing a few bucks at it again this year.

Good luck everyone! :)

Is there a pool where we gift tickets to or do we need a specific user?

This is fantastic, some money goes to a great cause, some goes to RDF to make it better, and we have a very good chance of winning something, small or big. Thaks admins for putting this together, I will be buying tickets and hope all members do!

Sorry for being a douche nugget but is there any other payment method besides Paypal? I kind of despise them after I lost $400 worth of merchandise due to chargeback and even with me showing them all the pictures of the sent item the buying said that I sent him a brick. So he got to keep it and get the money back.

I wouldn't mind handling a few transactions through Google Wallet if you guys have circumstances like this. Shoot me a private message if this is something that interests you.

You mean for you to enter into the raffle yourself? Or just as a way of donating tickets to The Forum or whatever? If it's just for you to enter raffle yourself, just follow the instructions for the purchase/use of tickets in the main post in this thread. The transfer function is only for transferring tickets to other members. If you still have problems let me know.

@yandreev3 was generous enough to donate 25 tickets to me personally however to ensure a fair event I won't be buying or using any tickets myself. As much trust as many of you guys have in me I think it would be wrong for the person solely responsible for announcing the winners and handling ticket counting to potentially win one of the prizes. So as much as I appreciate those of you who have decided to send some of your tickets my way, I will be redistributing those tickets amongst some of the members of The Forum as we near the draw date.

It's weird that autocomplete capitalizes The Forum, it's like a death cult or something.

I wish double post merging worked with Tapatalk but oh well. You guys still have about 20 or so days left before the drawing happens so meeting the requirements to enter the raffle is relatively easy. I know some of you are thinking well if it's so easy why have requirements at all... well I guess it's the principle of the matter.
