Hi, I've been a radar detector user since the 1980's. I had a Cincinnati Microwave Escort back then and have used various brands ever since. Counter Surveillance Devices.
I'm a commercial real estate broker on Long Island NY. Belong to the MBCCA, BMWCCA and HOG. I enjoy cars and motorcycles, also golf.
Interested in the Uniden R3.

Hey welcome! The r3 is an excellent choice! It's range paired with lockouts and decent k band filtering should serve you well.

Welcome to the organization Pennetta. Nice to hear you enjoy both automobiles and motorcycles.
Being in the Big Apple you face MRCD radar. While the R3 can now detect it on Firmware Version 1.46, alert range is short. For that reason you might want to consider a Radenso Pro-M as well. Numerous forum members from Edmonton, Canada recommend the Pro-M since they face MRCD there. An added bonus is this detector probably has the best false alert filtering on the market. Do a search as Vortex Radar did a comparison video between the R3 and Pro-M.
Be aware of other threats such as LIDAR enforcement and vehicle pacing. Consider downloading "WAYS" app to your smartphone as persons on the road ahead may alert to a speedtrap or other hazards. Let other faster cars run ahead of you and be careful and slow down when you are the lone car on the road or driving at night.
There is tons of good information on the forum if you are willing to search and read. An additional bonus is there are many good folks here willing to offer advice and answer questions. Stay safe and good luck
