i was minding my own business trusting my R3 coming up this speed camera, very large grey structure which has been there months and boom! place lit up with double flashes and my R3 just yawned, not a note, blink or anything to say hey, there is a speed camera here. Was it me or another car? this wasn't a new camera so what gives? Have i missed a setting or something, any help much appreciated/

    thanks

I think the FW update would reflash the database locations, nah?

Did you blast through a speed camera that you knew about? You know the most a detector can do in that case is alert, right?

These are definitely a hit or miss... If there is a flow of traffic ahead of you and mrcd on you'll be aright, if your the only one on the road your toast...

The installed Mestas aren't always on. They can be "dormant" especially when freshly installed.

Eg: the one down by TR he baseball field was installed many months ago and only turned on recently.

Many of the camera run MRCD, uniden did add some support for MRCD in the last firmware (1.46) however the unit is hardware limited on how low it scans frequency wise and doesn't scan the full range that MRCD can use so it will catch many camera's as MRCD, but some may be too low for it to see. The Camera database needs to be updated too, make sure you have the latest. the camera databases do lag a bit after the camera's are installed, the update is only done every few months and its possible the camera wasn't added in to to the current database before release. Do remember the R3 is a radar detector, it is designed and it's primary purpose is to detect police radar guns, the little "extra" feature like the redlight/speed camera database are nice little extras, and may or may not be 100% at all times. this is why we really suggest security in layers, like using Waze, an RD and a laser protection solution all at the same time as they all have their strengths but no one item covers all perfectly. If you face MRCD a lot the R3 is hardware limited there, the Radenso ProM might be a better choice against MRCD threats that abound in edmonton

    You mean the Mesta Fusions?
I don't think you'll be able to reliably detect the cameras with radar. I think @Heywood can confirm though.

Using the R3's Red Light Cam notifications + Waze might be your best bet though.

Also, if you're driving through Edmonton, just be aware the R3 also cannot reliably detect MRCD trucks/vans since it doesn't scan low enough.

I drove around with the speed/RLC settings on for the first few months with the R3, but have since turned them off. The passengers in my vehicle were getting annoyed (as was I) with the constant chirping saying I was over speed. Yes I know the speed limit is 50, but I'm not slowing down to 49 just to shut it up and piss everyone else off behind me.

Having been using Cm's for a few months now, I am almost ready to rely 100% on Waze within city limits as it is proving to be a better CM then the RD. Guess it just depends where you drive. In Calgary, my RD hasn't saved me from a single LEO; it's been waze every time. Calgary is big on their LIDAR behind trees.

I don’t use any of the overspeed settings at all.

The Mesta Fusions are difficult to detect. I usually get a K band alert when I’m close to it. It’s better when there’s cars in front to bounce the signal back.

By yourself, your looking at maybe 300 feet. Not all of them are in the RLC database’s for any of the detectors as Edmonton keeps putting them up everywhere and without notice sometimes.

They’re also doing other tricks by them. They’re setting up the temporary K band speed signs on the orange trailers almost right before them. Warning drivers of the posted speed limit, and inadvertently tricking RD’s of what’s really right behind it. The second K band signal. Be careful on locking out those signs right at intersections for this very reason.

I got caught doing this on Manning and 153 ave. It was October 27. I still haven’t seen a ticket from this, so my NoPhoto might have beaten it.
    IMG_4801.jpg IMG_4802.jpg IMG_4803.jpg

The Mesta Fusions track all sorts of different things. Speed on green, red light running. Left hand turns against the light.

I was getting K band and MRCD alerts from
them. Not constant either. The 75 st & 98 ave and 97 st & 144 ave. one ties in with the light. It’s almost like it starts to activate just before a change of the signal.

The Manning & 153 ave seems to give more constant K band when green. It acts different.

I use the mark option to remind me they’re there until they can get added to the ELC data base.

As for MRCD detection of the R3? I did a test in October. The R3 did very well. It placed right behind the Pro-M, but ahead of the R-Ex.

It does have a bug that should be worked out. It’s not filtering, but in this case, it’s not ticket worthy but has me somewhat concerned. There’s a couple it does this to.

The R3 does have one drawback. As @TheSkyIsFalling mentioned. He’s right about the R3 being limited. It can not scan for MRCD or other low powered K band below 24.050. It’s not FW related. It’s hardware.

Unfortunately we have some units in Edmonton that are dipping below that threshold. @Dukes has a video of one of those in Edmonton. You can find it on his YouTube page and here somewhere.

I like and own the R3 myself. Unfortunately for us in Edmonton, it’s not one I recommend for this reason alone.
