    G'day all, thought I would join up to get some help and advise around a newly purchased Uniden R3 detector.... it's second hand but only a few months old i believe.

    It was initially purchased in the US and shipped over and has had some Australian firmware added however i would be keen to maybe get some messages of advise as to how I go about making sure it has all the latest updates / firmware settings available from an Australian point of view.

    Keen to know what settings to have on / off etc and what would be the ideal set up.

    Appreciate this has probably been asked a thousand times.... thanks in advance all

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome to RDF.

    Essentially, there's no different firmware for AU/NZ, especially as yours came from USA originally. There's just a local AU/NZ camera database that can be uploaded (official Uniden or 3rd party, a work in progress).

    Assuming that you're in the Perth metro area ;

    - X band is not used in Australia - turn it off
    - K and Ka pop are not used, turn them off
    - Ka band is not used in WA, you can turn it off if you wish, along with Ka filter
    - Kustom Signals RP-1 and Falcon HR on K band (low powered, polarised beam) are your main threat, and are hard to detect. Make sure you run TSF = off
    - Laser, leave it turned on, although the R3 detects poliscan cameras poorly (you may be in the kill zone by the time it alerts)
    - If you can live with BSM falsing from Commodores, Mazdas etc to get best performance against the RP-1, turn K filter off. If you want it quieter, turn K filter on, it should only take a couple of seconds off the detection range of the RP-1
    - Use 'quiet ride' to mute all alerts under a set speed (I use 40 km/h)
    - Make use of the 'mute memory' function to mute out K band falses from door openers etc at servos, shops etc

    I prefer to run firmware 1.37 for max K band detection, rather than the latest 1.46

    Hope that helps

    Feel free to check out the AU/NZ sub-forum, and say hello ;

    This is brilliant step by step advice, thanks so much and i appreciate you taking time out to advise a fellow user.
    I will have a mess around with all the settings shortly and make sure that this is pretty much like for like.
