SO I bought a new radio and a honey baked ham...I went for the premium since I wanted the perfect reception and some sweet talking lady so I went the honey route. Anyhow, I plugged in the radio then I placed ham on it...I got a dual male headphone jack and I plugged one end into the ham and the other into the radio but I get no reception beyond normal stations! What am I doing wrong?!

I appreciate any tips and advice on this matter, thank you!

Alrighty, you're a joker but im going to be serous. You do know you need an antenna and it has to match the frequency range of the rig
Also, you have to tune the swr to its lowest point...
Preferably lower than say 1.6
Power you need a wire gauge heavy enough to handle the current you'll be pulling.

Buy some rye bread, swiss cheese & dill pickles to go with the ham.

thanks for the best explanation for the new comers!

Also, make the Earth work your 1/2 or 1/4 wave guide cut your antenna to the size of of either 1/2 (better) or 1/4 (worse) of the length of the wave you are looking up to receive or transmit and bury that other portion equal length into the ground.
