You know it's a requirement to boop his snoot at least once a day! Also, learn some German since if you speak English to him, he might not ubdetund you .

Oh and when he teeths and bites you too strong make sure to Yelp and then turn away from him. That is how dogs learn from their mom what bite is too strong .

I got a GS, Husky. Australian sheep dog, wolf mix. The ****er sheds like crazy! His teething was painful but we made him into an Omega .

Mine is part Husky, so ya she sheds worse than a GS. She suffers from Hip dysplasia, and obsessed with playing fetch. She has learned to toss the ball over the fence to the mail man, driving by,or the trash guys. They both play with her. Problem is if no one throws the ball back, she will bark for hours on end. She hates squirrels etc..

Thats cool, I am biased but having a dog, ok maybe include cats, they make us all better people. You can be having your worst day ever, come home spent a few minutes with them, and you forget about everything...

Jumpin jahosifats.......I have had Shepherds all my life and they are special dogs. Highly intelligent, fiercely loyal, hopefully a silly sense of humor.....they are a breed apart. The most memorable dog I had was Holly....she was nuttier than squirrel droppings, so protective of our family it was incredible, loyal beyond imagination. This is a bit rough, but Holly literally saved my Dad's life. It was cold, gray November day in 1993, Dad said he wasn't feeling well and he laid down on the floor of the TV room to catch a nap. All of a sudden, Holly went berserk, barking, pawing at him, jumping over him, crying out. Dad was unresponsive. We called 911 and the medics came. They put an oxygen mask on his face, got him to the hospital and it was quickly determined that Dad had sustained in internal hemorrhage. They packed him with plasma, operated and cut off the hemorrhage and he made it. He was in the hospital for three weeks and Holly was despondent. After a week, we brought home some of his dirty laundry and we let her smell it.....she smelled it, she knew that he was alive and she took an undershirt back to her bed and laid on it. When he came home. she barked, pawed and jumped on him as if to say, "Where the )*^&%%#@ were you? You scared me to death". We got a couple of pizzas, Dad layed in bed and Holly sat by his side. She was not disappointed to be on the receiving end of a few slices of pepperoni pie......

Wow what a cool story and how great is that. I have had other dog’s before, but first time with a GS. So happy to hear and glad your Dad survived. I heard about the intelligence and loyalty part and you experienced it, probably more than once. Our little guy is not a purbred but were told the origin for this line came from Australia. Anyway we are lucky to have him and every day is a new experience.

You need to buy the dog a lot of toys to chew on. Then they will not pick on something of your to chew up/
