I bought the Uniden a month after it first came out, excellent radar. I have tested it myself and it's very trusty, moved to a new town where they run only Ka band. Today, as usual, I was in a rush to go get something to eat, no Ka band at all, not a chirp. (This thing picks up cops in this town from 1-2+ miles away). I pull into to McDonalds, cop goes past me.. then I am leaving McDonalds, according to the cop I was doing 65-68 mph on a 40 mph zone. My radar did not go off ONCE. When he left, I started my car again and my radar was going off to Ka band. I am extremely disappointed and upset this happened. I asked the officer how he got my speed and he said through radar. Is it possible the officer is lying?? That's my real question, I know you can't depend on electronics all the time.

EDIT: What I find strange is, the cop drove past me in McDonalds and I saw him looking at me, but he did not pull me over.. then I go back on the road thinking there were no cops because my radar didn't go off, he pulled up on me, my radar did not go off ONCE even when he was behind me. After, I turned my car off and turned it back on, my radar was going off FULL blast Ka band.

The cop said he saw me speeding ON my way to McDonalds and he just "missed me" but he said I was speeding then.. he didn't say anything to me at McDonalds.. after I left I just saw him pulling up on me out of no where and still radar didn't go off and he said, you were doing 65-70 here and doing 70+ before. "You could have hurt someone.." yeah if I could have hurt someone why the f*** did you not tell me that at McDonalds? F***ing entrapment. Contacting lawyers, if anyone has some legal counsel on this that would be good as well.

EDIT 2: Cop said he caught me on radar "both" times

The fact that he said you were going "65-68 mph" indicates that he visually estimated your speed. "He just missed me"....he tried to clock you with IO but was unable to. Definitely lawyer up on this one, he's lying through his teeth.

Sorry to hear. Does it say on the ticket how he got your speed ? He may have paced you or visually estimated. Obviously your RD won't help in those situations.
Allegedly, how fast was that car going ?

Maybe he was trying to pace you before and you pulled in. That’s why he was watching when you as he drove by and waited till you left.

Depending how fast you were going might be pretty easy to see if he was on a side street doing paperwork when you blew by and then turned into McD’s.

He might have decided to turn his gun on after he stopped you to see who else might be gutsy enough to do that speed while he had you pulled over.

As he’s sitting there, it would be pretty easy to listen to the Doppler tones while he’s running your info and step out on someone else since he’s already sitting there with you.

I doubt your Detector was at fault. Sounds like classic pacing.

As for coming in and telling you? Really doubt that. Maybe he thought you saw him and might cool it on the way out. Well if your doing 65 to 68 in a 40 on the way out, would you have been doing the same speed in?

Just my take on the situation as I read it.

I had a city cop pull me over for going 61 and I never went over 50. How am I so sure I didn't accidentally go over? I pulled out of the parking lot and watched him pull out of another lot immediately behind me.
I made sure keeping it under 50 and watching him in my rear view, detector not making a peep. Who speeds with a cop directly behind them... Then he lied through his lying teeth and said I was going 60 after tailing
me for a couple minutes. Sometimes they are lying jerks that have nothing better to do.

When you re-started your car where was the LEO? Was he still behind you (sitting in his car not moving)? Had the LEO pulled away?

To me that is key. IF he was still behind you I highly doubt he just happened to turn his radar on when he got back into the car. Did he happen to see your radar detector ? Is so did he say anything about it?

When my unit failed it would work upon restart just about every time, but after a certain amount of time it would just stop alerting. I am wondering if this is another of my same situation?

He said he used radar, when I left Ka band was blasting after I turned my car back on, but didn't go off at all when he was pulling up behind me.

Not sure where the LEO was, but he was in the vicinity, my radar was going off on full blast on Ka.

I got stopped like that a few weeks ago. No radar went off and I saw him pull out was driving behind me about 1/4 mile. Since he was moving behind me, there wasn't any way that he could have timed me. His reasoning? It looked to him like I was driving fast. Well, in my town, traffic usually travels UNDER the speed limit and will take 1/4 mile just to accelerate to 10 under. Of course it will look like I'm driving fast when I drive up to the speed limit and get there quickly.
This is one you will want to take to court.

Did you go into the mcd's or drive thru? I only ask because if you went in, maybe when you left that you got in/started your car and pulled out quick enough that your R didn't fully boot up yet. That's why you didn't get the reading in time. Then you started your car again and once it booted up, it alerted. Just a thought.

You got pulled over, turned your vehicle off, got your ticket.....then what?

Did you wait for the LEO who gave you the ticket to fully disappear out of your view before you restarted your vehicle?

These answers are crucial to know if it is a faulty unit or possibly just another LEO in the same area.

Turned my car off, waited for LEO to go out of view, we were in a large mall parking lot so he could've been in the vicinity.. when I turned my car back on, Ka was blasting on full, I looked around and didn't see him..

Typically in this town, my radar picks up the cops so far in advance because they leave it running, they don't use instant on. This town that I live in is a lower income town so I don't think many folks run radar detectors around here so officers just leave their radars on 24/7. This is why I am surprised about this situation, my radar picks them up 10000% of the time, I've filmed video evidence of this. This time, my radar did not go off AT ALL. There was not ONE but TWO police officers who BOTH claim to have gotten a reading on my car (2 police officers at the scene).

They definitely paced you and visually estimated your speed. They get away with that in court because they are "trained" to visually estimate your speed. Not to sound like a broken record. You really don't have a case in court for this IMO.

Must be the same idiot I saw out here in NV who sped past a cop tailing me. Ka going off the entire time on my 30 mile trip so I kept it to 5 over which didn't seem to bother him. Clearly marked NHP Ford Explorer and the dude zipped right by him.

Next view out my rear view mirror was reds and blues and the guy getting pulled over.

Revised my post because you revised your post to say that radar was used.

That said, you know your detector, and sometimes gut feelings (detector not working) pan out to be true.

I want to dig deep here, what are your Ka settings? Was this a 34.7 stalker that drifted? You running Ka segs ? If so what numbers? Or was this a 35.5?

That tells me something is wrong with your RD. You need to return it if you are in the return period, or you need to send it in for service IMHO.

Thankfully here in Michigan (or at least my county), the police aren't allowed to visually estimate speed. I asked one of them one time, if I'm doing 100mph+ in that 55 over there and you aren't running radar while pulled over, can I get a ticket? He said "not unless I'm running radar or pacing, although I could try a careless driving ticket, but that may or may not hold up anyways".
Can we please stop calling radar detectors "radars"? This makes no sense at all in English. It could be called an RD, detector, or radar detector, but not a "radar". Not trying to pick any argument, but it's so annoying! If you want to be lazy in your typing and not type as much (who doesn't?), just use "RD".

I had a feeling someone was going to call me out for this, if you look at my previous posts, I used the correct terms. It's pretty self explanatory what I meant when I referred to my "radar".

You're right, we do know what you mean and I appreciate the correction in the prior posts. We just don't want to sound like the idiotic everyday consumer of RD's on this awesome forum. We don't want to be like the guy who says "check out my new radar" while he mounts it crooked, at the bottom of the windshield, facing up at a 45° angle!
