Hi All- Short time lurker, first time poster, long time lead-foot.
Learnt of this forum from GhostRider990 in the AudiWorld S4 board (B9 platform).
Looking forward to learning more about LIDAR an related technologies in the vain hope of keeping my early morning jaunts uneventful; that said, any North Atlanta (DeKalb/Fulton) insights would be greatly appreciated.
My initial interest into this "world" is AL Priority, K40 systems and the like; perhaps I'll fashion my own... though my immediate NEED is probably a Uniden R1 or R3; not sure if the GPS is truly needed for my situation.
Thanks in advance for any and all inputs. Be safe, Jack.

The ALP's and the Uniden R3 and R1 are excellent choices.

    Welcome to the RD Forum!

You didn't mention a current Radar Detector, are you running one now, and if so which one? Using any other available counter measures?

If you are in the market for a new RD, I would highly recommend a Valentine One with the V1LE bluetooth module while running the JBV1 App. The App is talked about in the JBV1 Section of the Forum. This will allow the App to find and then LockOut all the K Band falsest around Atlanta for a pleasant daily drive. Plus if you pair this setup with a TMG (3 head front, 2 head rear) jammer system, it will use the same JBV1 App for an assume integrated defense system. I am of the opinion that the Uniden R3 is a great detector but it is useless in the Metro Atlanta area due to all the Radar Present Reports that will never affect ones drive because the police are 5 blocks away on a parallel road or in the next county.

I am the perfect example that old dogs CAN learn new tricks! This Forum is packed with tons of useful information from best detector for where you live and drive mostly (so far there is NOT a single detector that is best for everyone/everywhere), proper mounting possibilities, additional counter measures, fast but intelligent driving habits, and of course @Vortex videos!

Hi Choose Life- RDF mentioned on AudiWorld S4 board. Lidar of recent interest due it's repeated, successful use -grimace- by local LEOs. An I seem to recall a MotorTrend of R&T story from years ago where rally drivers "discovered" certain headlamps impacted speed readers. Now where can I find headlamps with 904/905nm output? -smile- J.

Hello Transporter- Thanks for the ATL and the Valentine information. I'm currently running naked; just relying on being far sighted and not being a complete idiot on the road (though it's not working out too well; 285-78 inner loop and 400S Forsyth). Looks like I've found a new research project for the weekend. J.

    NEVER run Naked ... period

    ESPECIALLY in the ATL.

Pro Laser III / IV seems to be the norm inside / around I-285
    STALKER ka34.7 OUTSIDE I-285
    Stalker Laser everywhere
    Dragons Suwannee Gwinnett
    Need Lazer AND RADAR

Oh ... and a smattering of K Band just to make it interesting. ... Canton/Holley Springs Sheriffs !!
    Im sure others as well.

    Welcome aboard @SmartApe/neighbor!

I run a V1 with JBV1 for my commuter car, which is mostly 400, north of the Perimeter to an undisclosed location in North Forsyth/South Dawson Counties. ;)

I find that, with the tight quarters and abundant BSM of that corridor, the V1 does extremely well - quiet(er) and giving excellent feedback on where and how far away the threat is. It ain't no Uniden "R" series - it's is more like a scalpel than a sledgehammer.

We also have excellent support in the area for that other Google mapping product (rhymes with "days"). That is another tool I recommend (maybe the expression "insist on" would be more apprpriate... :) ) for your CM arsenal. I have been caught by surprise very few times by laser traps since I've started using it. In fact, I used it as my exclusive CM for a couple years before I lost my nerve and went back to an RD because of rolling radar use. It also delayed the need for parking sensors because it is so effective.

That's one thing about laser - it HAS to be stationary, so the traps get marked pretty quickly (I even reported one as the Roswell LEO was backing into his hiding place, before he was even ready for business!!) and they are pertinent.

    Drive carefully!!

I've hit Dragons in Dekalb now also. Prolite I believe still used by GSP and Duluth.
