As everyone who has read any of my Whistler posts knows , I am one of their biggest fans. I also own 2 R1's, a Redline-O, 3.872 V1, and several older Whistlers. We got our CR95 a couple of months ago and have really loved it! The last couple of times I drove Jane's car, I noticed that I was getting real Ka alerts, both 34.7 and 35.5 and it was turning the alerts into a FDSR alert! At first, I thought it was a fluke, so I wasn't too worried about it, that is until this past weekend! @VariableWave and I ran an all day test on all our detectors. On the long range test my R1 and Redline-O killed it with a 4 mile plus alert against 35.5! The moment finally came for my CR95 to strut it's stuff, and boy did it ever! We were all pretty shocked when it pulled down an alert just 1/4 mile off what the big dogs did! Then came the bad news. It held the alert as 35.5 for about 2 miles or so then changed over to FDSR and stayed that way all the way to the test car! This is not good at all! Of course the logical thing was to turn off FDSR, which I did and re-ran the test. Turning FDSR off somehow bricked it and it refused to alert at all on the next pass. I power cycled it again and it started alerting again but it lost over a mile from the first alert. For some reason it refused to allow me to do a factory reset. When we tried it at the harder course, it got it's @ss handed to it! I have finally got it to do a reset and will run some more tests with it this weekend since I now own a Genesis 2 35.5 and K band gun. It goes without saying that I'm pulling hard for this little Whistler! Time will tell. It might have to go back to the mothership for a checkup. We will post the videos as soon as we get them edited.

So I wanted to find out what this FDSR was. Dr Google led me to an article : FDSR refers to Field Disturbance Sensor Rejection and when turned on, is designed to identify all radar based collision avoidance and blind spot detection systems that operate within K band radar.

So from what you stated, FDSR is affecting Ka as well?

Yes it is! That sucks! I thought it only affected K band, but also affects Ka band too.

If you have a chance can you please run a test with K-Band off, FDSr off and Ka-band only? I noticed with the settings I requested for testing "K-Band off, FDSr off and Ka-band only" that 34.7 and 35.5 drop out exactly the same amount of time it would take switch over to the FDSr signal as described in your findings if it were enabled. If that makes since? I suspect another issue some what related. Thanks for your time!!

I will test it like you asked this Saturday.

I really want to buy this detector and give it a shot, but I start hearing better things about it before a Whistler another shot. I grew up using the Spectrum RDs back in the day and always liked them. I would love to see Vortex give a CR97 a good once over and hear his opinion. There is just zero reliable info on these Whistlers outside of this site and there really isn't even a lot on here.

On a positive note, the CR95 is greased lightning on I/O and Q/T! I can't even come close to getting a Q/T shot passed it since the factory reset. I can easily beat my R1 and Redline with Q/T.

Update! I tested the CR95 again today! The factory reset I did on it seems to have fixed all the glitches it was having. I set up a 2 mile straight course and shot it with C/O 35.5. First I ran it with K band on and FDSR off. Ka filter was off like always. K filter was set to 1. TFSR was also on. It got it the full length of the course, which I knew it would. This test was to see if it would drop it again like it was doing before. It held it all the way back to the test car with a perfect ramp up. Next I ran it with only Ka band on and got the same result. BTW, I run Ka max ID only. Next up, I turned FDSR back on along with K band again and once again it performed like a champ! It never once changed from 35.5 to FDSR! I also ran it all week back and forth to work with no issues.

We didn't do any video this time, just a quick little test for you guys and me as well! One other point, it seems hotter with FDSR on for some reason! Everyone needs to try a factory reset and see how it works out for you.

What setting was FDSR again? I can’t remember? Some sort of filter?

Kennyc56,

On my CR97 I sometimes get a very brief Ka Alert, then turns to K with ####. Other times I get K first with ####, then shows Ka 35.5 with signal of 2 - 3 at most, and then alternates between the bands for awhile. In neither case I did see any police around. I have FDSr ON. Not sure what to make out of this..

I've been having the same issue! I turned FDSR off. I have been trying different settings with my new CR97. Right now I am trying K filter on 1, KA filter off, pop off, TFSR is on to calm K band down a little. I am also running the quiet ride at 35 mph, so I still get the alerts, just at reduced volume. Make sure you do a couple of factory resets also!

It's supposed to be, but it doesn't act like it! It pretty much finds every BSM it can and puts them on the screen! I have stopped running it because I'm afraid it will get stuck on it and miss some real radar!

Kennyc56,

I will definitely try the reset this weekend and report back. I also just registered my unit with the manufacturer, and waiting on a response...
One of the main reasons I chose the CR97 was the FDSr, the ability to distinguish between false and real K alerts, so I definitely prefer to have the feature ON. Unfortunately so far it appears that it is buggy, and really hope it can be fixed/improved with a firmware update (as opposed to be a real hardware limitation, which would suck!).

From all I could read here and other review sources, it appears that FDSr actually impacts the performance while is actively detecting and displaying the ####. That being said, during such event the detector may have trouble picking up a legit radar source, regardless of the band. So if it does pick up a legit signal during the FDSr lock, it most likely "sticks" with it because it is the stronger signal, closer to you. I guess this could be seen as a design or a bug (I choose bug).
But if you have the FDSr OFF, then the unit may not alert at all of a legit signal while locking out a BSM detection (still actively filters BSM, just does not alert to it). That is the general agreement of all sources I have reviewed and documentation read.

In other words (I am just trying to lay it out simple, even though there is a whole science behind it), it seems like the CR97 takes preference and focus on the detected BSM/CAS source because of its proximity, and rather puts any other source at the same time in the back burner as the signal is weaker... I still think this is a glitch, and to back my theory here is an example: It has happened several times to me that I would encounter a vehicle that will trigger my FDSr alert (note that no other vehicle is around, like pass an oncoming car in a neighborhood street), and the weird thing is that the signal will increase and persist for awhile, after that vehicle is slowly disappearing in my rear view. That makes me think the CR97 does not release the lock quick enough and gets confused further on if another signal is introduced, leading to thesimilar results several people has seen...

I feel the same way! I think that if they get it worked out, it will be a good thing, but I don't trust it just yet! I have a connection going back and forth between @Bossdad71 and Whistler. He is aware of these issues and together we will hopefully get them sorted out! I think you will agree, even though they are still a little rough around the edges, they are still bad @ss detectors! I love both my CR97 and 95 and am looking forward to helping get these little bugs worked out!

Yes, I definitely agree that the newest CR is quite sensitive and can be a very good option, assuming the main issue we discuss here gets fixed. And I have read all threads here in regards to this unit, also seen the @Bossdad71 videos - pretty cool detection.
