Feel free to laugh at any point before, during and after! :)

On Halloween driving home cutting through a area I don't usually go and got hit by a cop hiding in the bushes with a hand held I assume laser device. RD didn't do jack and my favorite part, he got me doing 36 in a 25 of all things... He mentioned the neighbors complaining about speeders so they basically started running enforcement blah blah. NOT a big fine but just didn't want it on my insurance and rate increases blah blah. Am I wasting my time in trying to fight it?

PS: No indication of what gun was used on the ticket...

Fight em all. Even if you just get it reduced it helps you and it costs them money to deal with it. Then use the money you saved to get some laser protection.

TMG ordered a few days after that incident as my way of "dealing" with the issue! :) Its installed but the heads still need to be tweaked a bit more and tested at some point soon. Thanks!

PS: Get a lawyer or just fight it myself with some dumb excuses!?

Ha! my old stomping grounds, sadly i don't know the CT courts that well so I can't specifically say what they will offer you as a deal.... I managed to avoid the police in CT pretty well. I believe you can go in yourself and see what they offer, if it's not to your liking you can request continuance to obtain legal counsel (aka lawyer) and come back at a later date to fight it with bigger guns.

I moved last year... CT born and raised, 30 years there, lived in Simsbury for 25 years and on the Waterbury/watertown line for another 5, went to UofH for college. Took a relocation/promotion with work and transferred to the florida facility and despite that being home for all my life, I am really glad to be gone. and yea CT superior court, blech. only had one ticket in CT... also laser. but the cop cut me a break and wrote it for failure to obey traffic sign (or something like that) instead of 87 in a 55... I decided not to press my luck on it further as it was only 1 point and $100 I think...

Can't help with Connecticut specific advice (my relevant experience is with NY courts). Only one ticket ever in Conn (1975, commercial plates in the left lane on I 95), ........ignored the ticket and lived out of the area for a number of years till it disappeared, but that was in the days when everything was paper, or maybe reel-to-reel magnetic tape memory. You can't get away with ignoring those kind of things now.

Wow nice! I'm still trying to get down to Georgia myself. Really nothing holding me here except my job kinda! ;) Yeah this one is only for $146 and no points I guess but that still can effect your insurance/record so...

Just plead not guilty today online... Now we wait... I WILL for sure use my clean record as a excuse, etc. I think I will still find a cheap lawyer just to be more sure!?

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

For anyone that still is following this/cares at least a smidgen. They sent me a letter to be returned with two weeks to state my plea to the prosecutor, etc. I put that together today and will mail it tomorrow. Here is hoping no court case and nolled!

First one!? Clean record? FIGHT IT!! That is generally what I learned all over the net and here. I just got a new letter yesterday stating my ticket has been transferred to superior court out of my town on the exact date my letter was due back to them so either A) they didn't get it in time even though I sent it at least a week before or B) the prosecutor wants to see me sweat a bit... Once I get a court date I am going to use a website I found that has lawyers bid on your traffic violation, etc. seems pretty legit from random places I've looked sooooo idk... Good luck!

I live in CT. Usually, they offer a $100.00 charitable contribution in lieu of the actual fine, and nothing reported on record. Of course, that's just my experience.

Any more details? I assume this happens at court when you go? First offense? Thanks!

First time, lawyer got that deal for me. Second time, knowing how it was done, I got the deal for myself by asking for it in court. Of course, the advantage to a lawyer is you won't have to go to court. Good luck.

always fight - ask for a jury trial and then ask the officer to drop the charges nicely.
