Hey guys, been pretty happy with my R3 so far. Got the new firmware 1.46 then promptly downgraded. Getting a decent amount of false K alerts still. Some fall inside and some fall outside what k narrow would be. Do MA users generally run k narrow based on known threats? Any other recommended settings? Currently I copied from the vortex radar site. Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome from another MA user! Personally I find running K Narrow too much of a risk in this state. I know where I am I have K-band right at the absolute fringe of the narrow setting (24.199) where the cut off is 24.200. I have also seen troopers running very low K-band as well (24.0XX) where the cut off is 24.080. I would recommend running it in wide for a while to see what is around your typical driving area before you change any settings. If you must you can reduce your sensitivity a bit, but I would leave the full scan range for now.

If you are running the older firmware (1.31 or 1.37) and getting a lot of falses try turning TSF on + K filter on. It really helps on my unit, even a lot of the hondas don't punch through nearly as much and I still get good range on legit Kband (I have lots of legit Kband near me in FL). I run highway sensitivity with TSF on and it's fine on the open road, around town I switch to advanced 60% and it's pretty quiet, I have the R1 so no lockouts or low speed muting which would kill most of the stationary falses I get around town so TSF on should help yours out a lot too. I ran it in boston for a week in advanced 60% with TSF on and it was really pretty quiet, i was surprised.

That makes sense, I did get one legit alert and I also think it was 24.19x so I guess you're right it's not worth the risk,

Thanks a lot for the reco, I'm going to try that and report back. I've been running advanced and I think K is at 70% and I have K filter on, but TSF is off.

How do you drive in MA w/o Laser defense, I see it all the time ?

I rarely run into laser where I am. I can't remember the last time I ran into it in MA. In fact the last long trip I took basically driving from East to West and back across the state did not have a single LEO with active enforcement of any kind except a couple locals when pulling off for food/gas. I know as soon as I post this I will get hit though! I am not the fastest vehicle on the road though so plenty higher fish to target as well.

Yep. I’ve seen it twice on I-90 West before the I-84 exit. They sit on the inside of hard right-hand bend. Not sure exactly where it is off hand but I seems to be a favorite spot.

Yep, that's a favorite spot & a couple miles later after you pass the I-84 junction going West on the MAss. Pike, there's a nice hideout on the right shoulder where they ambush from. Just as you crest the top of a small rise, they fire at you...you never see them until you get the audio alert from my V1 or the ALP..

Kruppa, welcome aboard! I've been running K narrow this past week on my R3 (1.37). I've been trying to watch the spectrum analyzer carefully. I see lots of K band, probably 80% of my LEO encounters. So far, the guns I've seen have all been easily handled by K narrow. However, as the others hint, you could encounter a gun that's gone above that 24.200 GHz threshold.

I'm in Metrowest: tons of newer Acuras and Hondas. I find with TSF on, K filter on and K band attenuated (ADVANCED mode) down to ~60% working really well when it comes to quieting down those very pesky falses.

Just to clarify, you have been running narrow this past week.....how long did you run wide to confirm there were no high/low ones that would be 'clipped'?

many months, @westwind77 . Most of the guns (24.150, 33.8, 34.7 and 35.5 GHz) are very close to their designated center frequency. Some are dead on.

I'm not saying K narrow is a solution for everyone, just experimenting with it now. Definitely a case of "buyer beware".

Thanks everyone! This is exactly where I’m at right now with settings (but k wide) and it’s been way better.

    Me too.

You'll see much more on I-290, nothing the last couple of weeks b/c of all the road paving now yaking place...but the Troopers will be back afterwards.
