Encountered my first photo radar last night that I believe was MRCD 24.134 on the R7. The detector detected it as I was just past the front of the photo radar vehicle on K band. I basically had zero warning as I was doing 60km/h. I already knew he was there, I just wanted to see how long it would take the R7 to detect and there was basically no warning until it was too late. The rear antenna picked him up the moment I passed his mirror, showed arrows to the sides and then back. The front was out to lunch. Did I do something wrong? MRCD was on and so was K band, I did not announce anything other than the K band scan after I passed him.

So I recently ordered the R7, and had to turn my Alfa Romeo in for repairs, and rented a 2019 Mazda CX-5. When I'm driving in the CX-5, the R7 gets a constant rear reading of K band either 24.123 or 24.124. I would mute/mute memory each instance (which is every 10 seconds of driving apparently). Is there anything I can do about this? When I'm in my friend's car, a Nissan Rogue, there were no false readings of K band.

Take a look at this thread. Probably something you don’t want to do as the CX-5 is only a rental for you, but unfortunately the R7 and CX-5 don’t play well together. Mute memory is useless here as that is GPS based and can only be used on stationary falses.

I have the R7 on firmware 1.24 and I have noticed it displays my speed 1 mph faster than both my truck speedometer and my phone's GPS. Has anyone else noticed this?

The speed on our units is not going to be as accurate as a phone, let alone a speedometer. It essentially uses information on where you were and where you are to make a best guess at how fast you are going. While phones also do this, they have much more sophisticated software behind them for their calculations. Some discrepancies are expected, though they should be pretty minimal.

I see. It's just a little annoying when the R7 is alerting me that I'm over the speed limit when driving near speed cameras when I'm not. Maybe add an option to offset the speed?

Hi just wondering if there is going to be another firmware update for the DFR7. I notice that the New Zealand version (DFR7NZ) allows for K band segmentation - is this going to be a feature for the US D

Unfortunately, I do not know anything about plans for firmware to add segmentation to the DFR7 at this time, and I will have to look into it.

Main difference is that the NZ/AU Firmware has K- band segments (2 segments) and can scan as low as 23.950 to cover redflex cameras.

US firmware doesn’t have K band segments and can only scan as low as 24.050.

Please note this does not apply to the R series, only the DFR AND LRD series.

Last night, I discovered my R3 is not going off at all. I started to get suspicious over the past few weeks as it never went off even once. Even when I did a factory reset and drove by some speed signs it was silent. I tried m hardwire power cable and the cigarette lighter plug and no change. I even used my DRF6 simultaneously with it just to confirm I was not crazy and sure enough the DRF6 went off several times while the R3 was silent. The display is still functional as I can see my speed correctly. Is there anything I can try?

There have been some reports where the R series stops detecting radar all together. It will look like everything is fine, but you’ll receive no alerts, which is what you’re seeing. You’ve done everything so far that usually gets recommended, but the last thing to try before sending it off to Uniden for repair, would be to reload the firmware. Try doing that and make sure you select “recovery mode” in the update program. Once that is done, do another factory reset. If no dice, you’ll have to send it in to Uniden.

Thanks for the fast reply! I'm reloading the firmware in recovery mode now. Do you have any idea what the cost would be to send it back if I bought it more than a year ago?

Around $80ish

They’ll most likely keep yours and send you back a refurbished unit. That seems to be the trend.
Alright, its packed up and ready to go out. Maybe they'll just let me have an R7 for a discounted price hehe. I can't help but wonder if the fault was caused by the way I was powering the detector. Since I already had an amp in my car I just cut up a phone cable and ran the power wire into the 12+ port of my amp and the ground wire to the ground port.

That’d be nice, but I doubt it! The R7 is a beast and the arrows are nice, but the R3 is no slouch either. It could be, not sure. I always use the included power cord. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, you aren’t the first member to report a R series as no longer detecting radar, so it’s possible that your hookup had nothing to do with it. Let us know the outcome and how you make out. Good luck!

Finally got something! They sent me a new case, power adapter, and a refurb. Very satisfied considering all I sent in was the detector that was all banged up. This one looks brand new! Took a few extra days because apparently they had trouble charging my card. If your return goes past the expected ship date I would contact them and see if there's something wrong

Interesting. I sent in as brand new unit (3 weeks old) that had a dead rear antenna and they sent me back an older refurb that was all scratched up on the top and the lens. I've been working with Jenna at Uniden and she said if I send it back they will replace with a new one. Since the last time it was there 2.5 weeks I asked her to let me know what the turn around will be this time. She said she's waiting to here back from corporate. Been 4 days now waiting.

So, @gripnsipp got the one you were supposed to get, and you got is "beat up" unit?

Alerts are also not directional... Meaning if it’s a four way intersection and only north & south have cameras, but you’re traveling east or west, you’ll still be alerted.
This is not correct. The User marks are not directional. However, the camera database alerts can be set to be: i) all directional; ii) bidirectional; or iii) monodirectional. Therefore depending upon which direction you travel, you may or may not get an alert. All depends upon how that particular alert is built in the database. See also the thread here: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?threads/88426/page-5#post-1355943

Now, I have two US DFR7 I would like to revive. These are fully functional hardware, but I killed them due to an incorrect encryption I had built into the conversion firmware file. Unlike the R3 and R7 upload tools the DFR7 upload tools have no recovery mode option. I am proposing to revive them by cloning off another fully functional one. However I have not yet tried this before. Would Uniden be prepared to have me return them for recovery? In the alternative, does anyone have a broken DFR7 US model, they would be happy to send me, to allow me to clone the recovery process?
