Just wanted to add a data point here if it helps anyone. I recently upgraded my R3 to 1.46 and been driving around. Two times the R3 was quiet when I passed the stationary RedFlex low power K-band van photo radar cameras here. I thought maybe MRCD is now filtering these out OR the guys in those vans had the radar turned off / were still setting them up. But today the R3 detected a photo radar van and it was on K band 24.099.

I did a few runs by the guy and the R3 detected him (but only as you pass him) with MRCD turned on and off. Although one time with MRCD on and I was driving towards the van the R3 was quiet. But then another time it was not. So maybe the guy turned off his radar or R3 filtered it out in this one-off I'm not sure.

So in Calgary, these Redflex vans are K band not MRCD. And performance with 1.46 seems to be similar than previous firmware. My settings were K wide @ 60%, TSF off, and I played with MRCD on/off with no noticeable difference.

So I turned off MRCD for Calgary since we do not have MRCD here, only Redflex low powered K band and I hope Uniden works on improving detection for these in the future.

This is a known hardware issue of our Unidens. Only a new design of the Horn will EVER make the Lower frequency REDFLEXs RELIABLY DETECTED !!

Radenso's German-Designed HORN will pick them up though.

So theres always that choice if REDFLEX becomes more proliferated.

Have you tried turning k off and only running mrcd? sounds strange but i've been doing that in New Zealand and have been picking up redflex cameras......

I assume you are referring to fixed Redflex cameras, like speed cams?

We have those where I live, and they use a different technology than what is in the mobile Redflex vans/SUVs. The fixed Redflex cams are picked up as MRCD. I have been told this is in fact MRCT, although from what I have seen, the frequencies are all over the K band spectrum, not just the 3 specified as MRCT. Doesn’t really matter though, because the R picks it up great. The mobile units are a different story, and I do not know of a detector which can pick them up at an adequate range for a save.

Hey yes, sorry i meant fixed. I'm yet to go past mobile redflex camera. I run k band off as it seems to have gotten rid of alot of the falses i had previously.

Some Redflex Systems drift below the R threshold
24.050. R cannot scan below that.
Radensos being of European descent can go much Lower. Many here in Canada have observed this behavior. It has been noted Uniden w/o a Hardware change or Horn change cannot handle the Lower thresholds. . All Radar drifts both up and down.

Aware of the R’s 24.050 limit, but even if it could go lower it wouldn’t matter for these mobile Redflrx units because the alert distance is already within the kill zone. My V1 picked up one around 24.038, but it was only from a hundred feet or so. So yes it did pick up one that the R would’ve missed, but at that distance it doesn’t really matter. Either way, It would be nice if the future Unidens went lower.

Agreed.
The V1 and Radenso horns' allows for the Lower threshold, therefore they can most likely be Future Proofed w the existing hardware !!

Thats all I'm saying .. smile.

Im sure Uniden is working on ... something ... maybe arrows !!
At that point of course they can redesign the horn too !!

Apologies to resurrect an old thread. R3 obviously has the K hardware limitation on the low side of 24.050. My question is has anyone seen Redflex in the 24.050 to 24.080 (Lower Limit of K Narrow) in Calgary? I know lower than 24.050 has been seen. All the redflex I have encountered has been 24.088 - 24.092. Contemplating running K narrow (Until we get a K Block, K Segmentation or Narrow Range is Changed to a high of 24.193*) to eliminate some of the +24.200 BSM falses and possibly then raise the K sensitivity to pick up this pest a little better!
