Just seen the R3 NZ 1.37 firmware (RLC db built-in) along with update manager v 1.25 and USB drivers are now available for download on the Blulink website.

The 1.22 update tool won't accept the firmware file, so looks like you need to use the included v 1.25 version

Just tried to install the R3 NZ firmware with v1.25 tool to one of my US R3's ;

Once you install 1.25, it deletes 1.22, and won't let you reinstall it again, saying a newer version is installed, so you have tyo un-install 1.25, and re-install 1.22

This is a very interesting development @winterbrew , if your update failed this would indicate there is something that differentiates NZ and US models, where the US models cant take NZ files but NZ models can take NZ and US files

Yeah, v1.22 updater won't load the R3 NZ firmware file, it just says wrong file, and you have to use the v1.25 from Blulink

Hmmmm interesting.

Hopefully Demon or Matheru can figure out why. Possibly just a serial number check or something?

That was my thought.

Maybe someone can patch out the check in the updater software ?

Sorry, for late reply. Demon5 and I already discussed this.

The new NZ software is the issue here, It obviously reads your current database, probably then makes a note inside the software so it knows its broken.

Its really not an issue. The US firmware is already more up to date than this NZ firmware. Uniden will always prioritise the US over NZ. Also I've looked at these latest NZ databases included both separately and as included inside the NZ firmware: A) They are both the same; and B) They still includes many of the same problems as earlier versions.

To be honest, you're better sticking with the US firmware and upload tool.

Hoping to have a much improved NZ database for release in a week or two.

I posted this in another thread. But may be of relevance here.

I think I have managed to successfully update my USA Uniden R3 with the NZ database.

I bought a new R3 off Ebay and tried updating it tonight. I got the database from Blulink using this link...

https://blulink.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/R3NZ_137.196.112.db134.zip

I installed the USB drivers https://blulink.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/CP210x_VCP_Windows-DRIVERS.zip

I tried updating using the NZ Blulink firmware tool V1.25 but it said the model and database wasnt compatible, The file name was R3NZ_137.196.112.db134.bin so I changed the file name and removed the NZ so it read R3_137.196.112.db134.bin

Still had the same failed update

But....

So I downloaded the USA firmware tool from Uniden that contains V1.22 . It also has there database in it as a separate file
http://support.uniden.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/R3_20181005.zip

I then tried to install the renamed R3_137.196.112.db134.bin file using the V1.22 tool.

It downloaded it andthis time it actually went through the install process (which hadnt happened before) and looked like it was going to fully install it. But at the very end it said retry.

However... when I check my loaded firmware current version it now says 137.196.112 and says 2018/04/03

So I think shes worked :bubblewoop:

Or am I off base here?

No, not without some behind the scenes modification - stay tuned for any developments.

A bit further news on this development, it appears that if you have a NZ uniden r3, and download the american software from the uniden website it will overwrite whatever uniden put into the NZ as now the update software thinks the detector is american and refuses to load NZ/AUS software. I cannot revert software back to the 1.38 official nz software either. Very interesting

and a very warm thank you to mithheru for the continued work on the improved nz maps.

Yes, there's a warning on the Uniden USA site, on the firmware page ;

Warning – These updates are NOT for Australia/New Zealand models.

Yes those warnings were there, however with the previous versions of firmware you were able to still reload the new zealand maps on top of the american firmware. I did this with 1.46. However, with this new 1.48 the uniden update software refuses to load the new zealand maps

OK, I see.

Have you tried uploading the NZ map db with the NZ v1.25 updater, or does that say 'wrong version' now
