The Beartracker 885 seems a bit pricey for simple CB radio. I mean you're limited by the FCC for 4 watts of output power whether you get a $300 radio or a $70 one. What am I missing here? I'm a Ham, but never got into the 11 meter band with CB Radio.

It's also a digital trunking scanner with GPS, albeit with a reduced function set. It's main feature is the BearTracker technology, which is advertised to drivers of commercial vehicles as a way of detecting police and road hazards without a radar detector. If you don't need/want that technology, you'd be much better served by separate purpose built CBs and scanners with better functionality at similar cost.

Edit: Do a search, it's been discussed before. I sold mine on here around a year ago.

Hey I was reading your review last night and at the very end you mentioned how displeased you were and decided to let go of your unit.

Just like other members we would like to use it as some sort of CM and would like some more information on regards of the so called "Beartracker" technology.

So if we could just narrow down to that one part would be nice.

I did purchased a 436 but it's a scanner with a wide variety of channels and it does get extremely busy. I would like to be able to spot and listen if possible the emergency vehicle near by.

Also is there any other competition around this particular unit? Or @uniden is pretty much kicking ass by itself?

Thanks in advance

Uniden has a patent on the Close Call technology. In another thread there are several members trying to replicate BearTracker by monitoring repeater input frequencies with mixed success. Search for "repeater input frequencies" to track down the threads.
