UN-mute on a new signal.
I was directly behind a Chrysler Pacifica yesterday. Wow, I am glad that I don't see many of those. That BSM is awful. I was following for a while so I muted the offender, then I came up on another K band signal and the display showed the new frequency but there was no audible alert. Luckily, the new signal was just a speed sign.
The alert from the Pacifica varied in intensity but did not stop for about five minutes. It was a rural two lane road on trash day. Every time he passed a large curbside trash container the signal would ramp up from low to full.
At the VERY least bogie tone the new alert!

Another idea... Not sure if it's been mentioned as I'm currently on mobile, but:

When in dark mode, the alert display should light at the auto brightness level. So in the daytime, it can alert bright, and at night alert dark. Would certainly help catch attention better in the daytime without going ridiculous bright in the dark.

If not already mentioned. (I started to read this thread but it was so repetitive I skipped ahead LOL)

I would love to be able to have different "saved" profiles. I would like to change the settings in Advanced and save them, then change the settings in Highway and save them and allow them to be different from Advanced and so on. There are only 3 profiles and a select few settings, the space it would take for the amount of options should be minimal.

A request I have for the R3 is adding an auto sensitivity mode based on vehicle speed. My previous detector (Beltronics Pro 500) had this feature. It made it really convenient to not have to manually switch between city and highway mode. Maybe have full sensitivity on all bands 55 mph and above, but gradually reduce sensitivity as you decrease speed and when you get down to below 25 mph or so have sensitivity reduced to full city mode.
This would help cut down on the false alerts from door sensors without having to go in the menu and switch to city mode. Also, what if you go on the highway and forget to switch back to highway mode? You don't want to be operating in reduced sensitivity then.

I would like that feature but would prefer if I could set multiple advanced profiles (or even better 2 full setup profiles) to automatically set by speed.

Yup, just saying the speed based profile would be preferable IF those were implemented, as many (including myself) never use the default city or highway profiles.

So, I have avoided reading this thread as I feel at times we ask 'too much' of Uniden. I just read the 1st post summarizing all the 'wants', and wow there are a lot, and oddly specific as well!

I can understand everyone's driving situation/location/experiences are all different but personally I don't see the need for really any of that where I am, but can understand others might.

I feel like after a list like that is compiled it needs to be put into a poll/vote form - allowing only 4 or 5 of those to be picked as the most important - then those submitted to Uniden.

Personally I would like to see:

Improved BSM filtering - however what is there is still pretty darn good
Power Memory - remembering what power state it was it and retaining that.
Auto dimming with GPS based on location

That is all - the rest is fine as is...to me at least.

  1.
  2. Don't care. Powered off my mirror, turns on with my truck... I never drive with it off.
  3. Auto dimming works fine for me based on time, but this doesn't sound to bad.
  4. I'd rather have advanced profiles than all of those except 1!

If you only run 1 RD I can understand, however I have 2 powered off of mirror taps (360 & R3) If I want to run my 360 I have to unplug my R3 or else next time I restart my vehicle they both power on.....and I don't realize until an alert comes through on both. Escort remembers its last power state, would be nice if Uniden did as well.

Of all the options currently listed in the first post, I only care about the following:

Filtering
1. Better BSM filtering for Acura, Honda, GM, Cadillac and Chrysler Pacificas, VW Jetta

Red Light/Speed Camera (FW 1.4X will allow you to mute or delete RLCs)
  1. Directional redlight and speed camera alerts (I think it might do this already?)
  2. More frequent or regular cadence (monthly/quarterly) of RLC/Speed camera database updates. Not tie database updates to firmware.

Sound
  1. Speed based volume (R3 only)
  2. Change auto mute so that it adjusts based on a percentage of the currently set level
  3. User selectable muting delay on start up to allow GPS fix to set and speed based muting to engage (R3 only)
  4. Additional volume step between 1 and 0.

K Band
2. K Band Frequency Voice Alert

Hardware (for this or a future device on this architecture)
  1. Open source the app API to let enthusiast developers work on their own apps.
  2. Change download jack to micro USB or USB-C

None of the other options mean anything to me. Just my 2 cents :)

We did that on 1.37. But frankly, Uniden is going to implement what they can, when they can, no matter which is voted up or down. And now because of some leaks and all the anticipation and complaining about 1.37 and 1.48, I don't think we're going to get as much or a preview of the beta firmware that we used to get.

I think that wouldn’t be a wise move on their part bc ultimately we all know that controversy equals attention which has kept uniden trending and buzzing everywhere, especially after their initial sales period. i would assume this attention had led to more sales overall than anything else. and ultimately the small user end thats all about their firmware can easily switch back to older versions.

some complained but i think it made for more interesting conversation and discussion overall. I think they should have a limited beta testing program here once again but have it be a small, tight, community of people with real intelligence (people with backgrounds and degrees in this stuff not some random member with a high post count in fancy groups, thats where the politics come from).

Actually the fancy groups were created so that beta testers would have their own area to privately and collectively laugh at the rest of us when we post goofy sh*t.
Like this post for example.

This is a place holder for the remaining requests that didn't make it into Ver. 1.46. I will update the list more as we become aware of the features that will be included.

This is a new summary post of requested features for the next version of the firmware. What I will do is sort, group and edit the OP to put everything together. And I'll update this OP as I go through other threads and as people chime in here. That way we can reduce the number of duplicate requests, and allow the Admins to possibly close out other threads related to older versions or the current version of firmware in release, so we're not asking for features that are currently available.

If I find out from a confirmed beta tester, Tom @ BRD or Uniden themselves that a feature is not possible, I'll update the OP to indicate that. Remember, these are firmware updates. Adding things like bluetooth, an external app, a remote display, arrows, etc., may not or probably are not possible. The order in which I'm listing these features should in no way be construed to indicate importance.

It's also very important to note, that Uniden has a great relationship with RDF and the RD enthusiast community, and that Tom @ BRD has been a great to work with us and the engineers. They have taken a lot of our feedback and suggestions and implemented them. This list would in no way obligate them to implement anything. I would say that, as a whole, RDF members and R1/R3 owners are very happy with the performance and features of this revolutionary detector. I, personally, have been super happy with the updates that have come out since I purchased mine (#49), and they are coming at a rate that I would say is unprecedented for the RD industry.

Filtering
  1. Better filtering for Acura, Honda, GM, Cadillac and Chrysler Pacificas, VW Jetta
  2. A second level for TSF that delays or processes longer signals, but keep current (1.34 and later) version (TSF1 = filter, TSF2 = filter with delay)

Time
  1. More time options for the display auto dim setting (later time settings for summer, higher latitudes)
  2. Auto dim based on GPS coordinates R3 only (www.rdforum.org: who knows the alp auto dimming schedule?)

Red Light/Speed Camera (FW 1.4X will allow you to mute or delete RLCs)
  1. Remove, reduce or correct the over speed warning
  2. Ability to reduce or limit the red light and speed camera call outs
  3. Directional redlight and speed camera alerts
  4. User adjustable warning distance to RLC/speed camera
  5. User option for audible countdown distance to RLC/Speed camera location
  6. Separate voice alerts for RLC/Speed cameras from other voice alerts (i.e. leave voice alerts on for RLC/Speed cameras if disabled for other voice or band alerts)
  7. More frequent or regular cadence (monthly/quarterly) of RLC/Speed camera database updates. Not tie database updates to firmware.

Mode
  1. Speed based automatic mode changes
  2. User profiles; Profile 1 (X off, K off, Ka on), Profile 2 (X off, K on, Ka on), Profile 3 (X on, K on, Ka On), instead of having a band on/off in all modes. Be able to set different screen colors for different user profiles.

Display
  1. Ability to import a specific screen color setting
  2. Ramp up alert volume and display to 8 or 10 indication bars, up from the current 5.
  3. Improve or expand the multi-threat display indicator. "Redesigned multi threat display that displays the detected bands with possibly a numerical signal strength indicator that is also color coded."
  4. Selectable display color for mode (City, Advanced, Highway) or user profiles (Profile 1, Profile 2, Profile 3)
  5. Optional True or Full Mute function that not only mutes the signal audibly but also visually on the display.
  6. Dark mode with blinking pixel but display does not light up on alert or lights up for a user defined time of 0-8 seconds and then stays dark for the remainder of that alert.
  7. Make the primary signal strength bar indicator larger in height
  8. Ability to visually review previous 5 alerts
  9. Reduce the time on the "Mute" pop-up and redisplay the frequency.
  10. Additional dimmer/dimmest setting is not possible according to the manufacturer.

Sound
  1. Speed based volume (R3 only)
  2. Ability to upload user defined tones.
  3. Change auto mute so that it adjusts based on a percentage of the currently set level
  4. Separate, unique, or shorter indicator tone for 2nd, 3rd, 4th signals ("V1 Bogey Lock"), or a Band call out for an additional Signal ("Ka", "K"), implemented for K band
  5. User selectable muting delay on start up to allow GPS fix to set and speed based muting to engage (R3 only)
  6. User selectable Full Quiet Ride muting; instead of getting a single audible indication on a quiet ride muted signal, have it completely silent.
  7. Muting logic that turns off audible alerts for X and K band under a certain intensity and/for a short defined period of time; for example, no audio on K under a 4 bar alert or for a user set 3-30 second delay.
  8. Disable voice for radar band identification separately from other voice prompts (Separate voice alerts for RLC/Speed cameras from other voice alerts (i.e. leave voice alerts on for RLC/Speed cameras if disabled for other voice or band alerts))
  9. User adjustable latch time for muting.
  10. Additional volume step between 1 and 0.
  11. Separate Ka Quiet Ride option

Lockouts
  1. Ability to set your own lockout range (10-50 Mhz)
  2. Auto lockouts (when Escort's patent expires)
  3. Possible increase in the lockout/user mark distance, or active the lockout distance from where the signal is first detected, not where the mute memory is pressed.
  4. Optional user selectable lockout/user mark distance (0.1 to 1.0 mi in .1 mi increments)

K Band
  1. K Band Segmentation with 6-10 segments
  2. K Band Frequency Voice Alert
  3. K Band extension to 23.950 or 23.500 for Redflex Cameras is not possible within existing hardware due to receiver design, would require hardware update.
  4. Change K narrow to 24.195
  5. User adjustable K narrow range
  6. K band notch filter for muting, to allow you to mute signals between two frequencies (ex. 24.195 and 24.205)
  7. K band muting logic, initial mute to 2-3 bars, mute off at 3-4 bars (persistence)
  8. Ability to turn K band off independent of MRCD detection

International Radar Gun Capabilities
  1. Gatso not be possible due to the low end frequency restriction of the detector
  2. Strelka

Laser
1. Ability to lockout constant pulse rate laser false alert signals, with GPS coordinates on the R3, and without on the R1.

Updater Software
  1. Ability to download history
  2. Ability to export/import lockouts
  3. Ability to export/import settings
  4. Ability to export/import user marks
  5. Ability to upload settings

Power
  1. Power memory when turned off, i.e. ability to remember if the unit was powered on or off when power was disconnected and remember to stay in the same mode when power is reapplied. Or option to set power setting for upon start-up; auto or manual.
  2. An optional power cord without an LED
  3. 15 and 30 minute minute options for BAT SAVER.

Packaging
  1. Include Mini USB cable
  2. Better mount, more tilt, magnetic
  3. Change power cord to use RJ-11 plugs at both ends.

Hardware (for this or a future device on this architecture)
  1. Second horn and arrows
  2. Bluetooth capability (inboard or in outboard dongle) and an outboard app for settings adjustment.
  3. BT capable remote second horn and update UI to allow for arrows.
  4. Remote Display
  5. Open source the app API to let enthusiast developers work on their own apps.
  6. Option to run inverted (requires rework of the cooling path)
  7. Change download jack to micro USB or USB-C
  8. Move power jack to right side for consistency with other lines
Auto mute adjustable for each band.
-- Double Post Merged: --
Auto mute adjustable for each band.

I see u have some limitations with your understanding. let me help. various members from different groups are beta testers (they were there long before uniden began beta testing light bulb), my point was, it being beta tested more by members who are scientifically inclined rather than politically.

And in actuality that has seemed to have transpired with the members i see testing the R7 firmware. its all data based which is excellent.

1.49 Firmware coming soon.
Did you guys notice this from other threads ?
Sounds like a minor update with the following noted:
-Fix issue with Battery Save feature ( I wasn't aware there was one)
-Another minor change (?)

I believe there was no beta testing. I'm also guessing no BSM update so probably no reason to get excited, but one can hope.

I saw it mentioned. As I understand, it was beta tested by one user, or came about as a result of an issue reported by one user. I'm not a beta tester myself, so I can't give anymore insight. But as we saw with all the flap around the release of 1.36/1.37 and 1.46/1.48, I feel like the beta testers are, justifiably, being tight lipped about their testing and reporting. There were several additional requests made and even some personal attacks involved when it was leaked that there were beta versions out being tested.

I hope the next firmware update will allow for the over speed alert to be shut off, that was really annoying.
