I agree. They did a good job being polite and well mannered to each other. None of that checkpoint confrontational attitude some people unwisely choose to take.

Wow !!

Im ALL FOR Police

BUT IT SURE SEEMED TO ME that Cop was fishing for an "admission" of extra internet Txt Data function in order to Cite him a Ticket !!

Watched it twice !! Mr LEO wanted a book. A book is a Ticket btw .

They dont have quotas BUT they get promotions kudos better cars etc by how many "books" they have written.

Just sayin'
Not liking that stop at all. !!

Ha, I caught that right away. "Does it do anything else?" He was hoping to get him for accessing the phone/apps/texting though the display I'm sure. No clue the legality of any of that given it is 'factory'. Yes, he was fishing a bit though.

It's sort of funny because at first the guy laughs, I think he thinks the cop is joking... then a few seconds later you can almost see it in his face and hear it in his tone.... the "are you serious?". Haha.

www.usatoday.com: Tesla Model 3 confuses police officer who thinks a computer is mounted on the dashboard
Well he wasn't wrong it is a computer....it's just not user installed one. So there is not much the user can do...and removing it will probably kill the car.

Another good argument for tinting windows haha of course depending on where you are it could also be grounds for a separate issue lol.

They could possibly use a state or local "Distracted Driving" law. Depending on how it is written in the jurisdiction, it could be generalized enough that even fiddling around with the air conditioner (tesla or not) could classify. Might not stick in court, but it could always be a possibility.

I drove a Model 3 DP in San Fran the week before last. Yes, the dash is unique because near everything is on the giant looking 'iPad" betwent the front seats on the dash. Yes, its big. In front of you where the standar auto boiler instruments are (tach, speed etc) theres literally nothing but a small display for speed. Everything else is on the iPad to your right. Radio controls, HVAC, state of charge, miles to empty etc. are all on the iPad. Even from the rear, the iPad pokes up about shoulder level, so I can see how a cop could interpret that as a "computer on the dash."

BTW, yes, he was fishing, BUT overall, the cop was cool and wasnt 4th & 5th amendment "audited" by the driver. It could have turned ugly if either party wanted it to go that way. Shaggy got away this time!!

Yeah i could definitely see that going bad really quickly !!

It just bothers me after the cop established it wasnt a violation or threat
He kept up the interrogation.
Just not right and gives other cops a really bad image.
Glad we got a Lawyers POINT of view !!
Pun intended .... smile .

My .02 cents worth

What person has never heard about Tesla?? Dude, may need to look at HIS computer every once in a while. ;) And I find it amusing police ride around crashing all the time screwing with their computer mounted in their patrol cars.

I think it went well on both sides.
" He kept up the interrogation" - I think the cop was just stumbling and didn't know what to say. Humbled and at a loss for words.
Why does Shaggy have the camera pointed at the passenger compartment ? Uber driver ?
