Just a heads up. The public version of Waze on CarPlay should be live now.
Awesome! About time...
Just saw this come up in my app updates! Excited to give this a try after being so thoroughly disappointed by its AppLink implementation on Sync 3.

Now if we could just get ALP up there as well...
Only thing that disappoints me about the new waze is that it doesn't allow you to share you current trip progress/eta like it used to.
Would show your current location and eta when you shared it but not anymore.
I used to use that feature a lot with my partner.
Anyway to get that feature back?
Yes gotta have that version or higher, it wouldnt work on my current previous version at first so had to uninstall and the reinstall and it works! So cool to have tbis finally...
Maybe it won’t stop working in the background constantly, now?
Day 1 usage report:
Well, they have certainly fixed some of the issues I had before with the Sync 3 implementation, mainly the fact that it can now run while the device is locked and not keep an OLED-killing static background on my phone. Responsiveness is great and inputs are intuitive and very similar to normal. My only gripe is that map icons are still tiny and nearly invisible at highway speeds when the map zooms out, which is of course when you need those icons the most. Disabling auto-zoom and zooming in will make the icons appear as they do on the phone screen, but then the field of view is reduced to where a pin won't appear on screen until the voice alert happens at 1/2 mile away which is far too short as we have complained about forever.
A solid 4/5, will be a 5/5 from me if they will respond to my feedback and make the map pins appear as a constant size regardless of zoom or at least make their size a user-adjustable parameter.
It still stays open just like running it normally. I have to clear it out of my app switcher when I get out of the car.
Mine if you start a route and then switch apps or lock the phone, it’s a toss up whether you’ll ever get another direction from it. If I tap the icon or switch to the app, it comes up with the app logo and loads from scratch and then asks if you want to resume your previous trip. Maybe wit CarPlay it’ll keep it running instead of kicking it to the curb. Never have this problem with Google Maps.
I got a can’t connect to server msg once yesterday which could have been the app, phone or coverage problem? (Alabama this week)

Wait, what? Waze can now be used when the phone is locked? So I can have my phone in my pocket and get police alerts through the car's speakers via Bluetooth?
I have a feeling that's not what you meant, but I'm still hopeful...
Yes, if you have wireless CarPlay. Otherwise you’ll need to have it plugged in, which could get awkward if it’s still in your pocket.
I wonder if that's a hardware limitation with certain iPhone models? I have an iPhone X now, I used to have apps close on me frequently with my old iPhone 6.
It doesn’t happen with other apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps. Just Waze.
OK, for everybody using Apple Car Play, an iPhone (obviously), and Waze.
Everything hooks up fine and it basically works and shows everything on the 7 inch Kenwood head unit display. Now for my questions as I was running it directly on the iPhone prior to the Kenwood and Apple Car Play so I am used to some procedures that appear to be gone now with using Waze with Apple Car Play. The biggest reason for the new head unit was so I have a backup camera but Waze with Apple Car Play was a big selling point. So now that I am on Apple Car Play, I can no longer preload a Hazard to submit immediately (Hazard, On Shoulder, Vehicle). Now I have to touch those on the display which isn't that big a deal. When running into multiple LEOs, I would preload Police and then only need to hit, Visible, Hidden, or Other side to mark them immediately. These choices are now gone in Apply Car Play. I tap Police, then on the next screen the only choice is Police. Can't select Visible, Hidden, or Other Side plus can't preload or wait as the second I tap police it fires it off and marks it.
I have run though my Waze settings in the iPhone and they are all where they were when I was using the iPhone by itself with the now missing features. Anybody else seeing this behavior while using Waze on a vehicle head unit with Apple Car Play?
I'm a new Waze user, and just noticed this yesterday. I had a Police (hidden) alert pop up, and the next time I reported a LEO I didn't see any choice as to how to report it so was wondering where that selection is found. Apparently it isn't there, or must be buried somewhere, in the CarPlay display.
It’s there if i use my iPhone stand-alone but when it’s hooked up to my Kenwood head unit I get select the Sighting/Hazard/Issue and when I tap the Police Icon it open the next screen and the only choice on the Police sub-screen is Police and the second you tap it, it sends the alert. First time I did it, I thought it was going to open the Visible Hidden Other Side screen but No Joy, which is the reason for these Posts to see if anybody has a solution, idea, or answer.
