Just a heads up. The public version of Waze on CarPlay should be live now.

Just saw this come up in my app updates! Excited to give this a try after being so thoroughly disappointed by its AppLink implementation on Sync 3.

    Finally!

Now if we could just get ALP up there as well...

Only thing that disappoints me about the new waze is that it doesn't allow you to share you current trip progress/eta like it used to.

Would show your current location and eta when you shared it but not anymore.

I used to use that feature a lot with my partner.

Anyway to get that feature back?

Maybe it won’t stop working in the background constantly, now?

    Day 1 usage report:
Well, they have certainly fixed some of the issues I had before with the Sync 3 implementation, mainly the fact that it can now run while the device is locked and not keep an OLED-killing static background on my phone. Responsiveness is great and inputs are intuitive and very similar to normal. My only gripe is that map icons are still tiny and nearly invisible at highway speeds when the map zooms out, which is of course when you need those icons the most. Disabling auto-zoom and zooming in will make the icons appear as they do on the phone screen, but then the field of view is reduced to where a pin won't appear on screen until the voice alert happens at 1/2 mile away which is far too short as we have complained about forever.

A solid 4/5, will be a 5/5 from me if they will respond to my feedback and make the map pins appear as a constant size regardless of zoom or at least make their size a user-adjustable parameter.

It still stays open just like running it normally. I have to clear it out of my app switcher when I get out of the car.

Mine if you start a route and then switch apps or lock the phone, it’s a toss up whether you’ll ever get another direction from it. If I tap the icon or switch to the app, it comes up with the app logo and loads from scratch and then asks if you want to resume your previous trip. Maybe wit CarPlay it’ll keep it running instead of kicking it to the curb. Never have this problem with Google Maps.

I got a can’t connect to server msg once yesterday which could have been the app, phone or coverage problem? (Alabama this week)

Wait, what? Waze can now be used when the phone is locked? So I can have my phone in my pocket and get police alerts through the car's speakers via Bluetooth?

I have a feeling that's not what you meant, but I'm still hopeful...

Yes, if you have wireless CarPlay. Otherwise you’ll need to have it plugged in, which could get awkward if it’s still in your pocket.

I wonder if that's a hardware limitation with certain iPhone models? I have an iPhone X now, I used to have apps close on me frequently with my old iPhone 6.

It doesn’t happen with other apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps. Just Waze.
