R1 reminds me why I got it,and shows my V1 who it's Daddy is!

    It's been very depressing around here lately,with the hurricane and all. The last thing I was thinking about was a radar encounter on my way home from work yesterday. In fact,all the action around here has dried up for the last couple of months or so.I've been testing my R1,V1 combo again for the last month or so,with nothing to show for it,till yesterday! Out of nowhere,I get a 34.720 alert from my R1, my V1 remained silent,so I assumed it was ahead of me. There are no cars ahead of me as far as I could see and a curve about a mile ahead. About 1/4 mile later,I get another 34.720 hit,this one pegs my R1.My V1 is still silent. About 1/4 mile from the beginning of the curve they both alert in unison. As I get to the other side of the curve I see a state trooper coming at me about 1/2 mile or so. As usual he waits till he's about 500 feet or so from me and lights me up with 34.7! Once again,they both alert as one. After he goes by,I watch him in my mirror and when he gets about 1/4 mile or so from me he pops someone else with IO,my R1 alerted first,even from behind! The V1 was just a split second behind.It was a damn good showing for both detectors,but this R1 is just plain crazy!

    Must be! Btw,I have the V1 set up with Ka guard off. X band and K band are off too. The R1 is in advanced mode with K band at 70%,with K filter and TFS both on. X band is off. I know running the 2 of them is frowned upon,but it sure is fun!

    Glad you found it funny. There was nothing crazy about the encounter,they both alerted exactly like they would have by themselves. The crazy part is how good my R1 is.

    Glad you found it funny. There was nothing crazy about the encounter,they both alerted exactly like they would have by themselves. The crazy part is how good my R1 is.
    Crazy is pretty much what I would call it! It started to alert well over a mile from the source around a blind curve with pine trees on both sides of the road! The V1 did really good too,but damn this R1 IS SMOKING HOT!

    Which means what exactly, that the oversensitive R1 made you slow down way before you ever needed to? Both detectors did exactly what they were designed to do except the R1 did one of two things or both: 1) it made you slow down way before you needed to or 2) was picking up other stray police radar that was just a false alert because it would have never been able to clock you. Almost 9 out 10 times it is number 2! And the reason I know this is 40 years of dealing with radar. You even admit there is no other traffic and a curve ahead so there is NOTHING to reflect the radar. Basically the R1 was picking up other radar that didn't need to be acted on and the V1 alerted you in plenty of time to the actual threat as usual. Moreover if you had been running the V1 with JBV1, there is a possibility that on one of the longer CSA range settings it would have shown another LEO. Lastly, it has been proven multiple times that a V1 is less sensitive when there is another active detector in the vehicle so for that reason alone, your supposition is questionable.

    There is no way you will ever convince me that a detector can ever have too much range! I didn't say that I slowed down,I just said that I got an alert! Sometimes you just use common sense! Give me that info as soon as possible and let me decide how to react! An alert like this is very rare around here.Most of the time,95% at least,you're lucky to get even 1/4 of a mile at best cause all we have is IO. So you keep right on running a watered down detector if it makes you feel good! If they make a detector with twice the range my R1 has,I will buy it NOW! The V1 alerted just like it always does! It still alerted in plenty of time for a save. The point is just how good The R1 is on weak blips of radar! If you ever drive in eastern NC,even for just a couple of days you will thank your lucky stars for the extra range! There was no other source of radar either,both detectors can pick up and display multiple alerts.

    LOL.

    The Kool-aid runneth deep.
    In another thread some are arguing that "simplicity" of using an R3 isn't a worthwhile feature, while in this one the argument that's being foisted is that the relative insensitivity of the V1 compared to the R series is actually of benefit!

    Come on! :rolleyes:

    Both detectors have their place and pros and cons but not recognizing the other detectors pros or your favorite detectors cons is kind of silly.

    I knew that this was going to be a crazy thread when I posted it! No one on Earth loves their V1 more than me! But it was getting close to getting my @ss popped on 35.5 IO,so I paired it with my Redline-O. After segmenting it and turning off RDR,they kicked EXTREME @ss for years! I only stopped running them because of all the K band BS! I love my R1 also,but after awhile I always end up missing my arrows! That's why my latest adventure is running the V1 only on Ka band,and letting the R1 handle everything else. So far so good! Never told anyone else to do it,but I love it!

    Yup, I face I/O 35.5 every day with difficult terrain and flora. I've never once had too much sensitivity and I very rarely run into a stray Ka source. My biggest annoyance with the R is the lack of arrows so I can see the allure of running "Ghetto Arrows 2.0". I want a V1 to play with but need to allocate the funds to jammers first.

    If Uniden figures out arrows and adds Bluetooth with an open API, wed have the best of all worlds. Even just the BT/API part would be massive.

    Just imagine a V1 with the range of the R1! I would drive all the way to Ohio and wait in line like black Friday for mine!

    Right? Ideally adjustable range like the R series, but still. I wish VR would be a little less tight lipped about their plans.
