So I have a Cobra RAD-450. Had it less than a month but I have a very urgent issue with it. Well, today, and the last few days prior, the Ka band wouldn't be detected at all. K and X still work fine. I run it on full sensitivity, no extra alerts, no quiet drive, nothing special. However, it just seems to be working wrong. It will sometimes pick up the radar only as I pass the cop saying it's a low signal strength. However if I reboot it and pass the same cop, it will have been screaming for the last 2000ft. It's also at some point showed the car's current voltage even though that I never touched anything to make that display.

Other than that it's been a great detector (Where I live there aren't a lot of hills or rough terrain, so this detector works very well in my area).

Has anyone had anything else like this happen? If so, is it fixable? If not, I am going to return it and possibly get an iRad or something of the like (as I'm not looking to spend more than 250 ish on a detector of this tier).

If you are looking to replace the detector (and i really do suggest you consider it, the rad450 isn't that good) there are a lot of great option in the 250 range. there is some test data here: www.rdforum.org: TXCTG - Testing Index the Rad 450 made an appearance in a couple tests and it was generally at the very low end of the spectrum. Take a look and consider something like the uniden DFR 6/7 (same performance as the older LRD850/950 series, and the just released DFR 8/9.) you will have much better range and much better false alert filtering :)

See, everyone says the false filtering on the 450 is bad, but I guess some people have it worse than others? I'm really curious about this because it almost never falses. I just got back from a 170 mile road trip and it falsed maybe twice? Every time it was to a damn acura as well hahaha.

But yeah, I am willing to go for something better, I was just wondering if there was an easy fix. Thank you.

the rad 450 wont be as bad as some for falsing as it has tunnel vision meaning it's not sensitive to off axis so it wont pick up as many stationary store front falses, but it also makes it less helpful against real threats on curves when things are off axis. if you have only had it a month I would return it, and get a refund. do a little research here and see what is the best fit for your area and driving habits so you get solid performance and protection for your budget :)
