Does anyone know if we need to update Bel detectors to continue to get defender database and other updates? I received an email from Escort saying their detectors must be updated by Sept 12. Here is a cut and paste of the email "Please ensure you’ve updated your detector by September 12, 2018, to continue to take advantage of speed limit data, ESCORT Live alerts, software and Defender Database updates.".

I bet its something to do with the IOS update similar to the MAX360 "update or die" email blast

If you have a detector that has USB connectivity, use that to update the detector with your computer, and it will load the new firmware onto your unit. Two changes were made. Apple iOS 12 required app developers to up their security standards which is a good thing for everyone everywhere. Also, Escort changed the location of some of their API web servers. The old ones got shut down -- so if you hadn't updated your detectors firmware before that, it would still be looking to the old location for firmware updates, database updates, and Escort Live data. The email was confusing -- but do not worry -- it is an easy fix. Just get your detector updated via your computer with the latest version of Detector Tools or Detector Tools Pro (depending on which model you have), and you will be good to go.
