Wow...so I just got my R3 yesterday, as it seemed to be the best reviewed system, also managed to drunk order a V1 on amazon but it has not shown up yet, but it looks like it will need a lot of tweaking and add ons (but I have wanted that since high school, when 400 bucks was a ton of money).

So far I am not impressed with the r3. Drove 16 miles each way today and it beeped probably 12 of the 16. only times it seemed it did not beep was passing a cvs etc - guess the gps filtering is working.

Something on 24.123/4 and 24.199-201 was constantly pinging.

I have a 2017 Mercedes e class - I think my car used 77ghz for all of its automatic gizmos but it’s practically worthless in its current configuration.

Saw a post a few down on settings so will reprogram and try it again - I’m in the Florida Keys and it’s a holiday weekend so it’s down to stop and go traffic so not heading out again today if I can avoid it.

Try this for starters and see if you like it a bit more. Knock K band down to at least 70%. I run mine at 50%.
    Turn K filter on
    Turn TSF on
Threre is more to be adjusted but give that a shot to take care of some falsing.

Look for Hondas, Acuras, Buicks or a Chrysler Pacifica; those are your BSMs at 24.199-24.201. Like BTM said above, turn on K filter and TSF, and knock your K band down to 70% or even 50%. I run mine at 50% and with both filters on and I have to be right on top of those cars to get an alert. One day, 24 miles and out of the box are not enough to properly assess it. Keep reading further on other recommended programming and you’ll have a detector you can truly enjoy; maybe even more than the V1.

Not trying to get off topic, but I thought you had to buy direct from Valentine to have a warranty.

LOL....aaaaaaaaaaand it's ANOTHER thread like this.

So much for people using the search function.

Yes.. The R series will beep at a few different kinds of vehicles. It's very easy to ID the source of the beep. Learn how to set it up right. It's not hard to figure out.

    Good luck.

Depends on where you live and how much K is actually used by real LEO's. I live here in S Fla and very little K used so I run it on City and Quiet ride set to 35 and it only goes off to real Ka threats and a very rare K false periodically. If K is a major threat I would recommend going Advanced and using what btmgov uses and initially try with TSR off until you have to reduce K to less than 50%

Well sir, definitely try to see if you can identify if the falses are from stationary sources or Honda/Acuras.

I really recommend trying both the R3 and Radenso Pro M and returning whichever doesn't work best for you. Those are the top two models with integrated GPS. The R has class leading range and the M has class leading K filtering along with multaradar which is popping up in some US city areas.

As for the V1, it's a solid performer for tinkerers. I would pair it with V1-Driver (iOS or Android) as that is my personal favorite app. Also hear good things about JBV1 which is for Android.

Thanks for all the great advice so far will start playing with the setting tweaks above and inter grate with the ones I found and listed after the message.

Done probably too much searching and reading probably going to need an anti laser

Not sure how the official warranty works, only time I ever did anything like that is when a 1 yr 1 mo top of the line MacBook Pro died - Apple said no, contacted chase Safire said u bought it from amazon, they issued me a credit and took care of it.

    Thanks guys
    Happy Labor Day

You got ripped off if you bought a V1 from Amazon. Either it's way overpriced or an old, out of date version.

Cancel the order, and call up VR, and ask for a new open box return for $359. Full one year warranty direct from VR. Pick up a Bluetooth dongle while you're at it (V1C LE).

Like others have said, just continue to experiment with the settings and hopefully you will find the right settings that will work for you. In advanced mode, I use 60% sensitivity on K-band, and I have also tried 50% and 70%. I have tried TSF both on and off. I normally leave it on. Most K-band alarms in the 24.198 to 24.202 range will be from BSMs from Honda/Acura vehicles as well as Chrysler Pacifica’s and certain other Jeep and Dodge BSMs. When I get a K-band alert in that range, I look for one of those vehicles. Hopefully there will be a BSM filter update in the future for the R1/R3 that will cut down on the BSM K-band false alarms, but all of BSM systems have really made it challenging for the detector manufacturers. The BSM filter in my R3 is on par with my updated V1 (that was stolen) and significantly better than my Escort iX. I have had my R3 for about 9 months, and a just bought a second R3 for my wife’s vehicle a couple of months ago.

Yea you can’t take a detector out of the box and “plunk” it on the windshield. It’s gotta be configured.

    Couple recommendations-
TSF ON (may also help with K filtering)
Segment Ka to: 2,5,6, and 8. (Advanced Mode)

By running Ka wide, you may experience Ka falses (for me in the past around 34.498 and 34.5 ish). Testers have also reported a little quicker reaction/ detection to Ka signals when not running Ka wide, which takes the detector longer to sweep/process (more work for it to do).

The Ka radar guns center around 33.8 (segment 2), 34.7 (segments 5 and sometimes 6), and 35.5 (segment 8). By shutting off 1, 3,4,7, 9, and 10, the detector has less freq to scan. And many Ka falses are in those freq ranges too. So segmenting in advanced mode helps eliminate Ka falses and maybe get a little better Ka range.

Turn KA filter OFF---you do not need it and killing your KA band!! make sure you segment your KA . 2-5-6-8

you want K filter on as that is the secret to eliminating ALLOT if K falses-

Yep Ka filter off. Missed it on list. That’s why we need many sets of eyes looking.

Lots of conflicting information above. Filters on, filters off. Sensitivity higher, sensitivity lower etc. Confusing for new owners. One thing for sure is 16 miles is hardly a test..

Sorry, but I don't see any conflicting information in this thread. The consensus is K filter on and set advanced settings for K Band between 50 and 70%. The KA filter is the only filter that should be set to off and K filter should be set to on.

Vortex’s website has some good tips in addition to those above. I can tell you the R3 is light years above the IX I had previously. I think there will always be some level of bsm falses on K until car manufacturers get their head out of their —- and start using other bands.

I have k filter on, k at 70 (probably could go to 60 but there are legit k where I am), tsf on, quiet ride at 30. It’s pretty quiet.

Yeah for new owners you need links to the info
    Not just how but why

Like not using TSF if you face alot of K band
    But if necessary
The deciding factor could be the terrain

i got my R3 this past week and it was not performing right at 1.37 out of the box. i ran the firmware update and check the recovery mode box. it has since come alive. im once again getting impressive range like i did with my R1.

it’s interesting to see how people keep appearing out of the blue with solid knowledge of rd’s...lol welcome! :)
