I recently had my STI Driver upgraded to a Magnum. 3 weeks later SERVICE REQUIRED error is displayed within 6 minutes of being plugged in and weak/delayed detections. I tried a couple of different cables and cars with no difference. It worked great with stronger detection than before for those 3 weeks but I did miss my old magnesium shell they replaced with plastic.

I tried to contact their support email and replied to their shipping email and no answer..Are they still in business? I need to send it back even if I have to pay them Id like to have the selective band firmware added.

Ive had it since 2006 without issues. 12 years later and 3 weeks after they upgraded it, the first ever issues begin....:smithicide:

I believe Up All Night just had an interaction with them. You may need to call during business hours.

Call Escort Support line 800-543-1608, they should be able to hook you up with a RAM #. Expect to pay $49.95 plus shipping (to Escort) and a turn around time of 3 weeks.

You can call the Bel phone numbers but, you get ecort. Very pleasant but I could tell they all talked or hived my call because when the first guy didn’t call me back, the second lady said I know who you are and what you talked about. Then I got Mr. Helpful Again. Finally figured out the problem myself while he had me on hold.

So after a long wait I recieve the details of a tech that works for Cedar Electronics. I explain the issue through email and he says "The Sti models including Magnum are no longer supported by firmware upgrades" I replied fine dont change the firmware but what of the 4-6 weeks usage before a device failure? No warranty for that?
The tech replied to call customer service and get a work number..

Have any electronics experts on the forum ever taken these detectors apart before to determine a common fault if any? Is there a hardware connection issue or is it a software issue? I heard the Sti Driver mainboard and antenna is retained for the USD$99 Magnum upgrade but the outer shell and firmware is the only difference between the STi, Driver and Magnum.

Curious what does “service required” mean? What actually needs to be fixed or serviced?

I think its a hardware connection issue. I had another STi Driver before and it sounded like something was loose inside. When it displayed the error I'd give it a shake and it was good for another week or so.

My current STi/Magnum was only 3 weeks from being upgraded. I have heard that a faulty power cable can also cause the fault but I have a few to test with and no difference.

I recieved an order # for the return and Im waiting for news from the tech department.

I thought that if you got the upgrade from Driver to Magnum, you got a new one year warranty. I'd make sure to push them on that. Should be a warranty repair for $0 (other than your payment to ship it there).
