I pulled this information off the web (wiki) for RDF members to quickly reference the different hardware and software versions of Valentine One detectors over the years:

Each hardware version has an associated software version with it. Thanks to mrkookm, hardware refers to the internal components.

As of 7 February 2017, the colored bolded versions are current.

Hardware Version 1.86:
3.8952
- Radar circuitry V1.86 is functionally equivalent to radar circuitry V1.85 and was created to improve manufacturability.

Hardware Version 1.85:
3.8945 - Junk K Fighter enabled by default
3.894 - TMF2 for blind spot vehicles, Improved Euro Mode with wider K band range to cover lower frequency photo radar in Europe
3.893 - ESP Programming, the changes were the V1 ID went from a '9' to 'A', checksums went to all packets
3.892 - Added ESP
3.891 - Traffic Monitor Filter added

Hardware Version 1.8: This platform with Crystal Tuning became identified as "1.8A" beginning with 3.851 thru 3.873
3.873 - Traffic Monitor Filter Beta
3.872
3.871
3.868
3.864 - Added Euro X band (may have been Beta tested on 3.863)
3.863
3.861
3.858
3.857
3.851 - Crystal Tuning added, Digital Temp Control ('A' Designation on the FCC ID)
3.826
3.825
3.824
3.821 - Added Euro Mode; POP2 version introduced;
3.819 - Beginning of 1st GEN POP
3.818 - Added POP detection; beginning of 1st GEN POP
3.817 - POP Beta
3.816 - POP Beta
3.813 - last pre-POP model
3.812 - Factory Test mode introduced (pre-POP/POP Beta)
3.802
3.789
3.619 - New case, new horn design, new logic board (radar and laser boards integrated into 1), new front and rear laser sensors, new face display

Hardware Version 1.7:
2.909
2.879 - K Band AutoMute timing extended to a max of 30 sec.
2.869
2.849 - Added K Band AutoMute, AutoMute over-ride, and K Band rear muting with max of 10 sec.
2.695
2.693
2.691
2.690
2.680
2.391 - new case, same horn, additional logic board (for laser), front laser sensor, super wideband Ka coverage; Cost of laser sensing V1 $400 MSRP

Hardware Version 1.6:
1.36 Later model had Front Laser and SuperWide-Ka
1.36 - First model, no superwide Ka Band detection (covers 34.2 to 35.2 GHz only), no laser detection; $299 MSRP

Please share generalized data (not just instances that only your RD has encountered) associated with each version so others can see how the versions have changed over time. For example, the version when the ESP was introduced and when the POP2 was introduced.

So the Hardware is the Case itself? And software is the firmware updates?

I wonder if anyone collects V1 radar detectors. That would be a cool hobby :)

Can we expand this to include what each new version did over the previous? Ex: 3.892 (added ESP)

And technically, the 3.873 is where the TSR appeared, not the 3.891.

Can anyone comment on a particular model that has been hailed as a "superstar" ?

3.813 - last pre-POP model.

Would be sweet if years could be added too but not a big deal.

Here are some issues...VR states the factory test mode was on the 3.619 to 3.802, where as IIRC it is the 3.812 and 3.813, isn't it? If so, then VR's chart may be off. They also claim to have added Ku with the 3.619, which I don't believe is correct...can anyone verify the feature info listed to ensure they aren't off by a generation or my mind hasn't left me?
How to Reprogram V1 Radar Detector

Some other things we need to determine when, as a 'check list'
  • Crystal Tuning
  • Digital Temp Control (the 'A' designation on the FCC ID IIRC)
  • When the FCC ID was added
  • When the FCC ID was changed
  • False alarm retraction
  • when front laser was added to the 1.7
  • when the 1.7 had the two faceplate changes
  • when memory was added to the unit
  • when the unit went from 300 to 400 (I believe with the early, maybe first, 1.7)
  • which units were betas and which were stables and which were major releases
  • When accessories changed (ex: powercord changes to using a new 2A blade fuse to replace the 1A circular one).

3.812 and 3.813 have a beta pop option that sucks, but its still there. According to the documentation its "Factor Test Mode" but its their first version of Pop. (kills performance, don't use)

Do the previous versions have 'factory test mode'? I know the 3.812/3 do but VR lists all models from the first V1.8 up to the 3.813 as having it, which I don't recall being the case.

No, that is not what VR says have it. It says the 3.812 and 3 don't have it at all, but all previous 1.8s do, as per the link I originally posted and asked this question. Here is a screenshot.

That's why I asked everyone to verify the other things on the table are correct, as my worry is they may have 'bumped' everything to the left by 1. My 3.813 has the 'I' test mode, and from when I had a 3.619 for a few days to test, I do not recall it having 'I', which threw me off when I read that, as months ago I learned (from you actually) that the factory test mode was actually a pre-POP detection, that seemed to really harm 34.7/35.5 performance and didn't work nearly as well as the final 'J' POP feature.

Yeah that must be a new mixup, I could've sworn the old table (before the most recent editions) had it only listed as 813/812
