I just picked up a V1 with the BT iPhone dongle. Since I’m running the RD with my iPhone using V1 Connect, how do most of you also run Waze for maps and LEO alerts?

I don’t run k band in cali, the v1 once u get it dialed in it doesn’t need the app to run unless u want to see the alerts or you need lockouts.

I let the app (JBV1) run in the background and Waze in the foreground. I don't need to interact with JBV1 at all really, it's automuting, etc all in the background.

Where do I get JBV1 from? I didn’t see it in the App Store!

JBV1 is an Android app. I don't know how V1 Driver works on an iPhone. Some one from that side will have to help.
I don't know if/or how V1 driver might be in the background while Waze is in front. :)

V1 Connect won't run in background, V1Driver will (as well as many other things).
V1Driver was written with the intent of being able to run in background. You never have to touch it if you don't want to.
There is a separate sub forum for V1Driver if you have questions.

I seem to remember V1 Connect running in the background on Android. Perhaps that's no longer the case?

V1 Connect should be used for configuration only after which you should run V1 Driver. Waze can run in the foreground with V1D in the background. V1D will quiet your drive without any required user intervention.

I've got three options for waze; on the dedicated phone with JBV1 in the background, split screen with JBV1 and Waze up together, or Waze on Android Auto. I'm not sure which I prefer yet.
And, JBV1 also shows crowd sourced alerts, if enabled.

Ahh, there is a setting to turn it On, that's Off by default. If you turn on "Background Notifications" (Within the App) it does indeed stay connected.

Waze will alert audibly while in the background. I run V1Driver on my screen because I like to know exact frequencies and I have Waze as well as Pandora running in the background of the same phone. They are function as intended. I have never had an issue with any one of them while running all three at the same time. I flip them back and forth if I need to and all stays well.

Just be sure background app refresh is enabled for Waze in Settings. I know from personal experience that this can be turned / left off...

Guys, is it my imagination that Waze "pauses" when it's in the background? It seems like the car stops moving on the map and immediately updates when Waze comes back to the foreground. Is this potentially a problem?

That definitely happens. The question is whether that impacts announcement of pinned alerts. I think the answer is no, because it does alert you of upcoming turns and such. I don’t know for sure that I’ve gotten pinned alert announcements with Waze in the background, but I almost always run it in the foreground anyway.

@Deacon, OK, I would have thought the alerts ceased as well. I'll try it in the background and see if I gets my alerts. I'm not concerned about the map not updating, I am concerned about total loss of alerts.

Thanks!

I’m not so sure. On iOS at least, I think the state of each app’s display is frozen when it’s sent to the background. There may be a delay generating its new display when it comes to the foreground, but that delay doesn’t mean it was not doing anything else while it was in the background. Seeing the screen for a moment as it was last displayed is not a good indicator of whether it was truly suspended in the background or not.

About what? I think we’re saying the same thing: alerts should be delivered appropriately regardless of whether the app is in the foreground.
Yep complete reading comprehension fail on my part - misread which part of nomore55’s assertions you were saying would definitely happen...
