So its been a year with the R3 and the sticky cup mount stuck to my windshield and never taken down. Is how I will start my final review of my own personal experience with my R3. Go back a year ago pre-divorce days after my V1 got stolen. I bought a brand new R3 from radar busters and stuck it up on my windshield. Segmented Ka band for AZ and left it up on my windshield for a year including our hottest days this summer 11 consecutive days of over 110 degrees. During that time I read multiple and yet mixed posts about take it down, leave it up, burnt screen issues and one post that was a question as to more direct as to how does the R3 deal with heat?
Well while its a matter of personal preference whether to take it down off the glass or leave it up. I choose to leave it up on my windshield. Overall the casing of the the RD has held up very well in the heat with direct sunlight in the AM and radiant heat through out the day. I have had no problems with the display at all. No decrease in performance given temperature variances. But i will say that the sticky cup mount needs to be redesigned. First the sticky cup its self doesnt like the heat, if at all use a blendmount. Secondly the adjustment hub attached to the mount needs a better design to it. This seems to have been a common complaint that it doesnt allow for adjustment so that the detector sits level , it rather sits tilted up, others have said to bend the mount which i have done myself but if its designed right no bending would be needed.
But overall an awsome detector as far as performance, filtering, etc.. a few quarks that can be addressed by "upper managment" and the R3 (or at least mine) has tolerated the heat very well. Keep in mind my truck is 5%limo tint all around with a visor strip.

Here's the 20 million dollar question.....LOL. After a V1 and a year with an R3, if you had your choice to spend the next year with a brand new V1 or a brand new R3, which would you choose?

if I could have half the range on my V1 that I do the Uniden R3, the V1 would go back on my windshield

Have only been an R3 owner for about 2 weeks now (about 700 miles of driving) which I know is not enough time for a fair review. But with that being said I am impressed with the R3s range have not had any crazy encounters yet but definitely some mile or twos. Only one close encounter so far with a trooper in the median running VERY selective I/O, luckily in a known enforcement spot so Im always a little cautious and sure enough caught a glimpse of his parking lights (blacked out tahoe) then eased up, caught a quick 2 beeps of KA 34.7 with only got a 2 bar strength going right past him:confused:.. I still believe I will keep the V1 as the daily and use the r3 for long highway trips and wherever the extra range seems necessary. Have found myself wanting to turn the v1 on after KA hit to find out where it's coming from! Im really missing the arrows as well as the bogey counter which seems to help around town a lot more and the ability to go back and see your history log.

thanks

for all the fish

If your V1's range is less than half of the R3 range then you must have a busted V1 or some super hot R3!

I have had both and have seen the difference in range, but it wasnt enough to keep the R3.

Same here...Had the R3 for 1yr and put 20k miles on her. It’s a great detector but went back to run the V1 daily and have the R3 in the wife’s ride.

Is this with KA guard off and running custom sweeps?? After purchasing the V1LE I have noticed a drastic increase in performance before it I was having close calls for days.

same here, where I drive (Arizona) the v1 serves me well, the r3 would give me 3-5 seconds advantage, not enough to justify not knowing where the threat is.
Put arrows on the next gen Uniden and I will revisit you...

My R3 was sent to Uniden customer repair after 4 months of use. The ka band pinged so much I began to not pay attention to it. I have an estimated return date of early September and will be very interested in their findings. On the other hand, very happy with my new Pro M.

Unfortunately you wont know their findings. They usually just send a new unit with no explanation.
Early September ? Yikes, the supply is running low ! It seems like others have had turn around in a week.
Good Luck !

I'm going to sell it when I get it back so it won't matter much. However I would like to know if it was defective or not.

I have ran various versions of the V1, but the downside for me is all the linking you need to do with the bluetooth dongle, then pair with the phone...all of the mounts needed to keep everything up. To me i drive a truck not a space shuttle, so the cords, phone needed to pair with the v1. I will take the plug and play option , keep things sleek and hidden. Looks better IMO, and as for the 3-5 seconds it does make a difference when you gotta drop the anchor really quick. Again it comes down to preferences based on the indiviual user

As it turns out, you called it exactly. I checked their repair update page and it has already been 'fixed' and is due to ship out today. I called Uniden and tried to get more info on my unit and they had none. My R3 is being switched out with another. They can't tell me if it is a refurb or a previously returned unit...I do know the serial number is 200 less than the one I sent in. But it has been fully tested and is operating per spec.I live practically within a stone's throw from the repair facility so I should get it tomorrow or the next day. Then off to Craigslist or Ebay. I guess they underpromised on the return date big time. Total turnaround time is just a week.

If Uniden can solve Crapura/Honda and Douchecalade falses without crippling K range I'm going to have to say the detector would be perfect. There's nothing else I want from it at this point.
