I installed my wifes R3 with the sticky cup, which has been fine for the past couple months, but all of a sudden fell down the other day. I put it back up and it falls down a day later. I cleaned the inside of her windshield but the same keeps happening. I pulled a 'new' sticky cup from my other R3 unit case and put that one on today, will see how long it holds up. I know you can clean/wash them to keep them fresh but if it is never taken down it should not get dirty to have that need.

I'm not spending the money on a BM for hers (I have one is mine though), I may just get the 3M metal bracket version if this one does not hold up for very long.

Anyone else having issues with their sticky cup after a couple months?

Yes same here. I tried washing it with warm soapy water, soaking it. I went back to the small windshield mount bc im afraid of it falling again.

Normally, after you rinse it off and make sure it and the windshield is clean, you'll almost have to break the mount to get it back off! At least that's how mine is.You can't beat those perm ebay mounts though!

Simple solution: Cut a small square of 3M VHB so that the corners of the square do not exceed the circumference of the suction cup circle, peel tape cover and apply to suction cup, peel tape and apply mount to windshield. Problem solved!

If it comes off now, that means you need a new windshield! :holy:

Of course the actual proper solution is to buy a Valentine One that comes with a proper suction cup windshield mount or visor mount. Just trying to be helpful. :D

Get the center circle wet and you could pull the windshield off the car with the sticky cup.

Clean the cup and the windshield with rubbing alcohol. Use a paper towel and don't touch the cup with your finger after wiping. Let the alcohol air dry for a minute and stick. I have sticky cups that never come off even after a year. If you remove it, even to reposition repeat the alcohol wash. Even regular cups work with this method.

I use an alcohol pad to clean my Escort sticky cup and it works like a charm.

Stop using the Sticky mount. You can buy several of the fixed 3M mount for the price of one sticky and perfectly position them in each of your cars. Now you just pull your RD and plug it in the next one, no adjusting or moving around.

I don’t use the sticky cup. It’s like flypaper and has to be pried/ chiseled off the windshield. It’s not like other sticky cups that are rubber and use a vacuum; this ones like a sticky lint roller. When the sticky part gets dirty with lint or debris it won’t stick anymore.

So you guys saying I can clean this off? I thought that would remove the sticky adhesive?

I went to crafts store and picked up six of them for about $2. (They have different sizes.) Works great ..

When my sticky cups start to fail I drop them in a cup of really hot water (just shy of boiling) and let them sit about 5 minutes. Let it cool then re-apply. This works for me.

I took the suction cups off of my Pro M mount and put a piece of Scotch EXTREME Mounting Tape on it. Works great.

I haven't used the 3M VHB, but what I do like about the Scotch Extreme is, I can remove it pretty easily. Just use a blow dryer to heat it up nice and hot and then take a small knife and pry it off.
