    Hello,

I have a V1 now with no Junk-K fighter(TMF2) V3.893. I'm in cali so have K off on my current unit. At times I go into regions that do have K(map from RDF forum) and would like to switch over(very small amount of time)

Was curious to understand if there is more to the recent revisions than what V1 has stated on their site(i.e. has anyone noticed real world performance difference

    I understand that:
    • 3.894 Added Junk-K fighter
    • 3.8945 turned option on by default
    • 3.8952(Latest W V1.6 HW) no changes

With the latter two, (45 & 52) has anyone noticed any sort of real world performance differences?

Reason I'm asking, I found a 3.894 for 300, want to do a trade-off analyses between that and the V1 return stock units to see if it's worth going that direction.

I noticed V1's site does not say "this is our latest and best performing" on this unit, but believe it says it for 3.8945 & 3.8952

Worth saving the extra 80 bucks?

Would appreciated if you could let me know(or point me to a resource) that shows real world testing between the revisions and you've noticed anything different besides Junk-K being switched on.

    thank you

In addition to the discussion Tallyho linked to, I believe they also fixed the issue of the V1 laser falsing to some neon tail-lights (Trailblazer?) at some point. That used to be a common complaint, but I haven't seen a single report on v3.8952

Thank you for pointing me, I did see that post prior to post, but it seemed more of an "I think" was looking for something more grounded in numbers.

Specifically, was curious to see if anyone had gone to the lengths of doing radar tests w/ the revisions.

Thanks again for the help! much appreciated

Ah, this is good to know, I have had this issue for years on 3.893 and prior. Good to see that it could be corrected on the newer revisions.

Good point. I can appreciate your request for more detail.

For a bunch of enthusiasts you'd think we would have that documented/tested somewhere.

I have a 3.8952 and it has happened to me occasionally. But I've turned off Laser long ago so, obviously, it doesn't bother me.

That being said, I always thought that 3.8952 was just a change in the manufacturing process, and wasn't a performance upgrade since 3.894.

I thought 3.8952 allowed for one continuous 34.7 sweep instead of breaking it into two. IDK as I don't have that update on either of mine.

Yes, 3.8952 was primarily a change in manufacturing process, its why some upgrades to this are basically a trade in for a new one. The continuous 34.7 sweep was also added.

I wish we tested the different versions like we did back in the day, but these new RD's with long range seem to be distracting from the micro testing.

Im on the fence with my 3.893, I want to upgrade but the cost would be almost the same as buying a new one.

^ Agree with you here, for me, I think the biggest care about is the SA(situational awareness)

    For your 3.893 unit,
3.893 has ESP and from my understanding should be upgradeable for the 79 dollar premium plus shipping right? That's what im looking at right now 80 + 20 ship there + 20 ship back. A call to valentine let me know that they essentially plug it in, upgrade it, change the serial, and ship it back.

While I get it, valentine isn't there to work for free, they should demand some sort of premium for developing these newer revisions, and I'm also thankful that they support and upgrade these previous models, thats a significant adder to the cost of ownership(when you compare these to other premium models that allow FW upgrade via USB)

so all in $120 - again, a bit steep(only my opinion)

    Back to where I'm at:
I found a 3.894 for $300, so for a $180 delta, Im leaning towards that(box and all original accessories included) instead of sending in for the upgrade. This would give me two units and being in nocal K isn't as large a threat.

Yeah, believe it did, noted this in my second post.

Anyone know if this was a function of the HW change, or just a FW change that relays this back in lower level code?

Reason I ask, I see they've made an HW change to "ease manufacturability" anyone what this exactly relates to?

Does anyone know if this was a component swap(i.e. swap caps, resistors, semiconductor content for more available ones?) or an actual HW change)

I believe it was a hardware revision to replace some components that were going EOL. It seems like they made some minor firmware changes as well, but I've never seen these documented.

This actually happened to me today with my 3.8952.. can confirm, still an issue - albeit rare, since most of those things are in junkyards these days..

Good point, wonder if this war was won by attrition rather than by conquest.

I get an occasional false to tail lights on my V1 but they are few and far between.

Maybe the difference is if one wants to upgrade to the new hardware 3.8952 version, it might be like a $299 upgrade (but they do ship you an all new unit including accessories in exchange for your old one). I know when I sent in my old 2006 version (not sure which firmware) to upgrade up to 3.8945, that's what I had to pay.
