Well...it's something we hate to do, but I did it. Today I became an adult! Now I'm not putting the EX to bed, it will still be my daily driver. I just had to get my hands on an R3 though to see what all the hype is. Taking it out in a bit for some testing, looking forward to be shocked and awed by the results.

it's always good to test a variety of different makes and models over time. Expensive, yes, but it's fun too.

Still cheaper than tickets or loss of license

I actually like both detectors. Some days I run the R3, some I run the Redline EX, and some days both at the same time with lots of separation. I know it's not an advisable practice, but I still do it. I think my Redline EX keeps up with my R series fairly well in all but the most rare circumstances. The range of the R3 will surprise you sometimes. Enjoy!

Well, after a 30 mile trip tonight I found a few things. It alerts at about the same distance as my EX does to my speed sign route, perhaps 100 feet sooner. Def quite on BSM falses. And the customization is awesome. Only the first night with it, so a lot more miles to put on it yet. I guess I was just expecting a little more out of it than I saw. No ridiculous off axis detections...that's for sure.

In Chicago you're probably not going to notice much. Where I've really noticed a difference between the two is open highway when the opposition is running Ka band. Against my local Ka speed sign, all of my R3 beat both my Redline EX and my Radenso Pro by about a mile. What are your preliminary settings on the R3? I am currently running Highway, speed camera on, Red-light camera on, all bands on, Pop off, K filter on, Ka filter off, TSF off, Ka segmented, Quiet ride set to 85.

KA Segged, X off, pop off, TSF off, KA filter off. Highway. This morning for laugh, I drove with both on. Ex alerted to my speed sign 2 seconds before the R3...and the R3 actually didn't alert to a Cadillac BSM false while the Ex did. In reality I spend little time in the city, most of my driving is suburbs with wide open stretches.

I still run my Redline-O with my R1 every time we are in my Boss 302, and that includes a cross country trip that took more than 6 days, and 5000 miles. Never had even one hint of a problem running the two of them together! That includes several 10 mile plus alerts that they both got every time! My R1 is better On 34.7 while my Redline is as good or even a little better on 35.5.

Glad to hear, I know it's frowned upon to double-dip detectors, I just had to make a side by side comparison. EX running up high, R3 down low. Unfortunately I found out I cant use the direct wire for the R3 though, the alert lamp wont turn off. Oh well. It's def growing on though, I too will run my Redline-O from time to time still. The best WS detector Escort has made thus far.

I still love my Redline! If it had better k band filtering,it would still be perfect! The trick is to make sure rdr is off on the redline, otherwise it will sleep like a baby next to any other detector. I wouldn't advise anyone else to do it, but I love it!

Now they just need to make a detector that has CI performance in a WS unit.

And if they did, Escort would probably make it available only to authorized installers.

Which is ridiculous. I have buddies who live and breathe cars for a living, I trust them to work on my car. Much cheaper too, but it's their policy.
The suction cup needs to be positioned a certain way. LMAO

Give it time. Off axis, the thing is a monster. I don't consider less than 24 hours a good evaluation of the unit. Let us know in a few weeks how shes doing.

@drtoddw he's NOT in Chicago. Hes about 30 miles west in DuPage County and there's a lot of rolling hills and foliage (now anyway). He'll get some monster alerts out there.

I plan on it, taking a longer trip next week to Wisconsin. Def excited to see how she handles the pines.
