It is no coincidence that most of the speed traps that I know on 17 or the thruway are in the top earning areas!

Could you imagine the politicians screams if a constitutional amendment required all fines to be rebated to taxpayers and not contribute to their coffers. The incentive for unreasonable laws and enforcement would be gone but they couldn’t complain the fines are for public safety since they still could be levied. Seems fair to me.

Agreed. Those top ten towns are raking in some serious revenue!

You'd think so, but there are laws in Texas limiting ticket revenue taken by municipalities, with the rest pocketed by the state. It helps a little, but many still take great pride in bored officers enforcing free-falling speed limits. Partly that comes from civil forfeiture, where they just seize whatever cash you have on you and claim, "They could've used it to buy drugs or something, you never know." And they can get stats if they find someone with a little bit of weed on them, etc. Other than straight revenue, traffic stops are used as excuses for fishing expeditions.

1, 3, 7, 11 is absolutely crazy. I was there few months ago. The entire trip all I heard was 34.7 and 35.5. Half of them were C/O but there were some REALLY SELECTIVE I/O. I just ended up travelling the speed limit the entire time I was there and unplugging my radar detector. It was going off as much as I get K band falses with in NYC.

I love it when people think that speeding tickets are about safety and not revenue.

The worst thing that could happen to state budgets is if everyone drove the speed limit.

I deal with town of Ulster, town of Lloyd, New Paltz (all Dennis the Menace territories), Catskill regularly, occasionally Wallkill, , AND your two, + town of Queensbury roughly monthly

edit: I'm surprised the towns of Red Hook & Hyde park didn't make the list...........lots of NYSP and Sheriff action along that stretch of Rt 9.

Oh Jesus, you're talking about all the towns around Buffalo. Truthfully, it doesn't surprise me that Amherst leads the list.
It isn’t too bad though, once you get used to it. That’s true of everywhere. It just seems bad if you’re not from around there. Once you know the ropes, you can still enjoy some spirited driving. lol

#24, #8, and #4. Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Colonie. This should come as a surprise to no one from this area. Glad I have to drive them every day. :ughh:
