On my morning work commute, there's a two-lane on-ramp that splits into the north and south directions of the freeway, and it's usually pretty empty at my time of arrival, so it's one spot I sometimes like to open up my car and really flex it. The speed limit of the road the ramp comes off of is 55, and the speed limit of the freeway is 70, so I was definitely going a lot faster than that! As I'm cresting the ramp and beginning to enter the "freeway-side" of the ramp, my detector starts going off, so i start slowing down as quickly and safely as possible (you don't just slam your brakes at that speed lol!). Entering the merge zone which is about 0.3 miles long and is also an exit lane (that i take to get to work, I never really enter the freeway) and I've slowed down to about 70. As I'm taking that exit at the end of the merge zone, there's a state trooper sitting right past the exit on the shoulder of the freeway! If I had kept up my speed, I'd have been done in for sure.
