Mods if this is in the wrong place, by all means move it. Couldn't find a General Post Section that applied to the RDF.

First off have a question: what is the minimum donation and why is there even such a thing? Nowhere does it say there is a minimum and there is even a Custom entry where I tried to enter my Donation. Seeing as the Lowest pre-set amount is $5, is that the supposed minimum (again it is a Donation, why a minimum).

Now to the reason for this Post. I was going to make a $3 donation to make it an even $200 remaining, then challenge everybody that logs in the rest of the month to donate 50 cents just the next time they login. From watching the member logins that would put the RDF over the Goal in no time. Hard to do though if the minimum is $5?

Is this nuts? Is there a cost to the RDF if the Donation isn't at least $5? Wondering?

Dude! Shhhhhhhhh! We can't talk about it!!! Oh man. This is going to be bad. I'm going to be offline for a while. I suggest all of you lay low for the next few weeks. I'm going to miss you guys!

KIDDING!!! You've outed another one. :)
I don't know about the donations minimums. Just saw the opportunity to give you some good natured teasing. :)

Maybe it has to do with tranaction fees, etc....just throwing that idea out there.

Maybe @xydrine knows

Well first, thanks for the donation/support.

Anyway, not sure what the issue/problem is though. The way the donation addon is coded it doesn't allow for multiple options such as specify an amount AND have a bunch of donation amounts available at the same time. So I made it $5 minimum so we don't have 100 different options like $1 $2, $3 etc etc etc.

Not to mention that fees for cc processing for example costs like $3/transaction or something like that so anything below $5 is really counter-productive and just evaporates because of fees.

I think you're overthinking it though. It's not a huge deal, if you don't want to donate $5 then don't ;). And, if we go over our goal during one month, we'll roll it into the next month and next month's fees will be less.

Thanks. I see. I am involved with a bunch of groups that have functions during the year and we raise money via Paypal. I was thinking of that model and that with F&F there would be no fees and I used PayPal to become a premium member. So the thinking was (without any fees) that 288 One Dollar donations is almost the same amount of money as 57 $5 donation. Plus there is the Challenge aspect to it. It wasn't about the amount, or how much I was willing to donate (already Donated $35 so what is $5 more), it was more like when I think of Donations, nobody turns down a $20 or a Quarter. But if there are fees then that is different.

So now speaking of fees, do you get hit with less fees with one payment method over another?

Not so much - unless people send via Friends and Family via PayPal, but the system isn't setup for that since technically what we are "selling" is "goods and services" not necessarily "donations".

Come August the entire financial structure for RDF will be changing since we just made a huge infrastructure change so server fees will be going down significantly at that point.

Yes, I haven't updated it yet since I usually pay bills/receive invoices between the first and fifth of the month and don't know what next months fees are necessarily going to be until all things are paid off.

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

I just updated this month's server/licensing fees btw.

I can't believe it's been a year since we installed XenForo (license renewal time), it does not feel like a year at all.

Interestingly, I've actually been keeping an eye on XenForo 2.0 (RDF uses XenForo 1.x) and a lot of the addons we use here have been ported over and are rather stable. In the near future moving to XenForo 2.0 might be something we'll be doing - a while ago it was not a possibility because not many of our addons were ported over. But now things have changed and it's been many months since then and addon developers have been moving things along very well.

We'll see what happens.
