    Does anyone have the Beltronics Detector Tools v1.5.42 zip file that they downloaded from the Beltronics website?

    If anyone does have DT v1.5.42, would you please let me know, and I'll arrange to provide my personal email address to you, if you would be able to please send the file to me.

    Background: I never had a problem downloading any of the updated Beltronics Detector Tools versions. I would then successfully install the updated version. (Prior to downloading each new DT version, I would uninstall the older version, per Beltronics instructions).

    On or about June 23, 2018, I uninstalled DT v1.5.42. I then successfully downloaded DT v1.5.54. However, upon attempting to install the new and updated DT v1.5.54, the installation sequence would freeze approximately 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through the installation process. I tried to complete the installation numerous times, without success. As it was late at night and Beltronics customer service was closed, I called the Geek Squad, with which I have a membership. Two very highly knowledgeable "agents" were unable to get DT v1.5.54 to successfully install. The installation process would always freeze at the same point. The next day I called Beltronics customer service. A rep attempted to install DT v1.5.54 two or three times, without success. The rep then connected me with a rep who was a "Customer Service Expert" regarding such things as downloading and installing DT. The rep took over remote control of my laptop, as did the previous rep, and also the Geek Squad Agents. The "Customer Service Expert" uninstalled and deleted everything pertaining to any of the DT downloads (as did the previous rep and the Geek Squad Agents). The "Expert" then downloaded DT v1.5.54 successfully. However, the installation process once again froze at the same point as during previous installation attempts.

    During email and phone communications with the "Expert", I was informed that Beltronics Detector Tools v1.5.54 will NOT successfully install on computers with Windows 8.1 (which I am using), or on Windows 10. It will supposedly successfully install on a computer using Windows 7. I was informed that I was the first customer/user to report the problem to Beltronics, Since then, numerous additional customers/users have contacted Beltronics to report the same problem. However, the DT v1.5.54 file is still on the Beltronics website, with no warning that it will NOT successfully install on a computer using Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. I have reported the problem and written about it on the Beltronics Forum, but there has not been any information forthcoming from Beltronics.

    I have recently been informed by the "Expert" that the Beltronics engineers are working with Microsoft in an attempt to develop a "fix" for DT v1.5.54. I am not going to hold my breath waiting for a "fix", as it may take an undetermined amount of time for a "fix" to be developed and then released to the public. I have also asked if there was any way that I could obtain the "old/previous" DT v1.5.42, and I have been told NO, there is no way to provide DT v1.5.42 to me,.

    So, I am reaching out in the hope that someone has the original downloaded Beltronics Detector Tools v1.5.42 zip file. If I can obtain the original DT v1.5.42 zip file, I feel confident that I can successfully install it again on my laptop. In the meantime, I am unable to access the Defender Database, in order to update my two STiR Plus systems.

    Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    On the install - just for grins - try right clicking on the install and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR... worth a shot.

    M4rk,

    Thank you for your reply post. I'll send my personal email address to you via a Private Message. If you do have the Beltronics Detector Tools version 1.5.42 zip file, I would sincerely appreciate it if you would send it to me via an email attachment. I'll then download it and, hopefully, successfully install it, as I had previously successfully installed v1.5.42. I'll let you know how things go pertaining to the download and install after I receive v1.5.42.

    Thanks a million!

    rvacs,

    Thanks for your suggestion. It may work, However, a female Customer Service Expert at Cedar/Beltronics, who is supposedly the guru in downloading and installing such things as the Detector Tools files/program, could not get v1.5.54 to successfully install on my laptop. I have been told that it has something to do with a problem in v1.5.54 on computers running Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I surely am no expert when it comes to software/firmware, but when the "Expert" from Cedar/Beltronics could not get v1.5.54 to successfully install on my laptop, I don't fel that I will be able to be successful. I have been told, by the "Expert", that the Cedar/Beltronics engineers now know that there is a problem, and that they are working on a fix/work around/ or a new version of Detector Tools.

    Thanks for your suggestion, I'll give it try. I am desperate to once again have an operational and correctly functioning Detector Tools program, because, as of this time, there is no way for me to download the current Defender Database, which is updated weekly.

    Thanks again for your suggestion. I'll give it a try, and let you know what happens.

    Hi Andrew21,

    By any chance have you recently (within the last couple of days) downloaded Detectior Tools v1.5.54, and then had it successfully install on your computer?

    If you did have v1.5.54 successfully install on your computer, what operating system is your computer using?

    Thanks Andrew!

    Right, I checked, I don't seem to have the install binaries, but I do have the 1.5.45 files. In the past i've ran multiple versions next to each other by executing them in a separate folder. I can sent you those also.

    Edit: I've got one last Laptop I can check, i'll do that right now.

    M4rk,

    I see you are using the STiR M-edition. I am guessing that is the international unit. I don't know what Detector Tools versions the international STiR M-editions use.

    The last successful Detector Tools version I had and used was v 1.5.42, once again 1.5.42.

    If you should find that you do have v 1.5.42, which I know I successfully installed and used, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send the .zip file to me.

    You mention v 1.5.45. I do not know if that would be compatible with my USA STiR Plus units.

    They're full of ****. It's actually still on their very own web server if you know the right place to look.

    http://beltronics.com//register/software/Beltronics Detector Tools v1_5_42.zip

    Edit notes: Attaching the file directly just in case they don't like me pointing out that it is there, and decide to take it down.

    Hi sdrawkcab,

    Thanks a million for your efforts in advising me that the Beltronics Detector Tools v 1.5.42 is actually still obtainable on the Beltronics (Cedar?) server The only place I know to go for the file was on the Beltronics website itself.

    I can't get over the fact that in the afternoon of July 11, I practically begged the Beltronics Customer Service Expert, with whom I was communicating, to please see if there was some way, any way at all, that someone from Beltronics could send v 1.5.42. I was told that it was impossible.

    I went out late this afternoon to take care of a few errands and, when I returned home, I looked at my email and saw the notification from the RDForum regarding your post. I was ecstatic! Thank goodness, and Thank You!

    At that time I intended to download and install your attached file of v 1,5,42. I am still going to do that in a few minutes, but after I read your message, I scanned down my email and saw an email from the Beltronics Customer Service Expert with whom I had been communicating. The email was sent to me at 5 PM on July12. It said that a new Detector Tools v 1.5.57 had just been placed on the Beltronics website. I was finally able to sit down and download the Detector Tools v 1.5.57 zip file. I then successfully installed v 1.5.57, then went to my cars and successfully updated the Defender Database on the STiR Plus systems on my cars.

    So, bottom line, I will keep using v 1.5.57, but I am going to download the v 1.5.42 file which you attached to your message, and use it as a backup, or fallback version, if it becomes necessary.

    I sincerely Thank You for your help and efforts in advising me that v 1.5.42 is still on their server, and I also Thank You for the extra effort of attaching v 1.5.42 to your message, just in case it might "disappear" from their server.

    By the way, if you have a couple of minutes, how do I get to, or find, their server? Just in case I ever should need to obtain a file from it, as you pointed out.

    To all who offered advice and help regarding my effort to obtain the old Detector Tools v 1.5.42......

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I sincerely appreciate everyone's help, advice, and attached files, in helping me to somehow obtain v 1.5.42.

    I felt that Beltronics would take a long time to solve the inability of v 1.5.54 to successfully install on my laptop using Windows 8.1. Without an operable Detector Tools program, I was unable to perform Defender Database updates. So, it was much to my surprise when I received an email from the Beltronics Customer Service Expert, with whom I had been communicating, at 5 PM on July 12, advising that a new and revised Detector Tools v 1.5.57 was just placed on the Beltronics website. I successfully downloaded and installed v 1.5.57, then successfully updated the Defender Database on both of the STiR Plus systems on my cars.

    Again, my THANKS to everyone who provided help, advice, and the files for the old v 1.5.42, which I will save as a backup/fallback version.

    @Andrew21,

    I have downloaded v .1.5.42 and will retain it for a backup/fallback if necessary in the future.
    In the meantime, I have downloaded, installed , and used v 1.5.57 to update the Defender Database on my STiR+

    Thanks again,

    You're welcome.

    So I used archive.org thinking that archive.org would have stored the zip file. In a few cases, I have actually seen that archive.org did archive off the page and zip files linked from the pages it saves. In this case, I could find the pages linking to 1.5.42 on archive.org, but the downloads would fail each time after starting as they linked to a locally hosted archive.org copy, but the archive.org copy was not usable. So after poking around for 45 minutes, finally I had the idea occur to me to look at the link itself on archive.org, and then copy the link, and convert it back to the non-archived URL, and see if perhaps the file was still on Escort's web server in the same location. To my surprise, it was. So there's how I went about it, to answer your question.

    <SoapBoxRant>
    I think I'm more bugged though that Escort/Beltronics simply told you that there was no possible way to get you the file, when it sort of feels more like a scape goat to get you out of their hair. Simply because a CS agent doesn't know, doesn't mean they shouldn't make an effort to find out. Maybe they did, and nobody knew. I sort of feel like it was just more policy to say that to you, than the customer service "expert" actually taking on your issue as their own and attempting to resolve it. Anyone that's worked in CS at some point in their life can relate to the ideology I have that Answering a customers Inquiry is not the same thing as Resolving a customers inquiry. I mean, I found the file still on their own web server. Me, a non Beltronics employee with less knowledge about the internal politics, policies, and procedures of their business. I'd bet you'd understand me when I submit a question for @Vortex to ask the Escort CEO about this at his upcoming interview. 'Nuff said.
    </SoapBoxRant>

    I'm glad we found it though. I think we should do the same for all the other versions on the Escort, Beltronics, and Cobra brands and keep a community run repository since now we know what to expect from Cedar Electronics.

    Hi @sdrawkcab ,

    Thanks for providing the explanation as to how you went about finding the old Detector Tools file version. I must admit though, as i read through your explanation, my eyes started to glaze over and my brain started to sputter! If I, or we customers, had to resort to what you went through in order to obtain an old file version, I'd most likely rip the system out of my car and start over again with a different system! So, Thanks again for performing all of the work and effort in finding the old Beltronics detector Tools version 1.5.42 zip file and attaching it to your post #13 above.

    I fully agree with your "SoapBoxRant". Even though I was told by a Customer Service Rep that there was no way v 1.5.42 could be obtained directly by me, or be sent to me by someone within Cedar/Escort/Beltronics, I couldn't believe it. The old v 1.5.42 had to be somewhere. I just did not know where it may be, or how to obtain it myself. The only thing I can think of, in addition to your thoughts, is that "they" just did not want anyone to be able to easily obtain the old version, for some unknown reason.

    I wanted the old v 1.5.42 as it worked for me. From what I have been reading about Cedar/Escort/Beltronics, I felt it may be a long time before a new file would be released which would "fix" the problem with v 1.5.54, which was released on or about June 21, 2018. So, even though I went through a couple of weeks of uncertainty, Cedar/Escort/Beltronics did, to my surprise, quickly release a new Beltronics Detector Tools v 1.5.57 which I successfully downloaded, installed quickly with no problems, and used in order to update the Defender Database in the two STiR Plus systems in my cars.

    The upcoming interview of the Escort CEO, by Vortex, will be very interesting. I look forward to viewing it.

    Thanks again, sdrawkcab, I really appreciate your help, thoughts, and efforts regarding this matter.
