    Hi All,

I'm running a V1 in one of my cars and using JBV1 for all visual and audio notifications. My wife really hates radar detectors, but I keep them up and turned off for her.

Here is the question. JBV1 let's me run the detector dark, but only if the app is running. Is there a config option that would let me run it dark, especially at power up, without running an app?

I basically want it fully dark regardless of the Bluetooth connected app running. Audio is easy with the knob and lever, but I can't find a way to kill the display using standalone.

    Thanks all.

Yup. Black electrical tape. No app required. I have used it for years, and still continue to use it to cover up the front of my V1 to completely stealth it since I run it with an app. Now it's just an obscure black box.. part of the dash camera thats mounted nearby if anybody asks;)

If you run a Concealed Display, the V1 will be dark.

I believe pre-ESP CDs used a resistor across one of the data lines to indicate it was connected and darken the display. You could therefore wire in the appropriate resistor, but your V1 would go into legacy mode and you would lose most app/V1C functionality. I suppose you could wire this inline with a switch to toggle legacy mode on and off, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

Both JBV1 and V1Driver can be set to auto-boot when it detects the V1C, no user interaction required. How often are you driving without your phone on you?

My phone with JBv1 announces it's connected when it's in my pocket - reminds me to take it out - lol

The best way to achieve total, all-the-time darkness is with a cover or tape. No matter what you have connected or running, there will still be lights at startup otherwise. :)

Also, I believe you don't have to turn down the lever. That's supposed to be a percentage of the main volume. Not it's own volume level.

If you cover the display remember the rear laser sensor is in that area.

Thanks all. Great suggestions. I still need to get over the V1 not having brightness settings despite using it for years! While I love my R3 in my other car, and despite auto dim lacking, at least it's something!

I considered what some suggested just connecting a CD and tucking away. Seems clunky, but an option.

I would love a custom cover to black it out. I may just use etape! I need to check, but does someone know exactly where any sensors or rear facing antennas are so I don't cover something important?

Right, thanks. Is it just a rear laser sensor? I don't use jammers, but not too worried about laser where I am. But I wouldn't want to cover up any actual rear radar sensor.

Covering the rear rear radar sensor with non-metallic tape shouldn't have any effect on radar detection, IMHO.

Yup. Youre correct. I remembered that when I totally blacked out the whole front, including the Valentine One logo.... I stopped for .00000003ths of a second and remembered that now it wont detect laser.... :sotw:..... then I remembered that RDs suck for laser anyway and thats why I bought ALPs and long ago turned laser off my V1... :mmmhmm:

I cant think of any reason on this huge rotating ball in the sky why anyone would want to tape over the rear radar antenna on thier V1

its already blacked out... that would be like paying to tint over a window thats already tinted....

Agreed and hilarious! The rear radar can remain untouched. The question is if there is also a rear laser sensor tucked somewhere else on the front area.

The last time I had a laser hit I think a ufo was flying overhead.

yes, there is a front laser sensor too. you cant see it, its behind the tinted plastic on the front. If you shine a bright flashlight into it, you might be able to see it.

I wouldnt sweat covering the rear laser sensor. there is way more of a chance of leo's lidar beam bouncing off the moon, transversing Mars, coming up on the other side of the Earth, bouncing back off the pavement behind him and going up his arse than getting a rear laser save on a V1.....

Thanks, that's helpful. It's funny, I found a version of this graphic online and the rear sensor wasn't labeled. Maybe an earlier version.

Or Mike stopped putting them in there to help save money and fund his massive R&D budget. Come on Mike!

I saw a sign in a bar: “Free Beer
    Mañana”
Same day the V2 will be available,

I thought the same page, wider view to show the radar antenna might help

In a world of modern tech and the fun world of radar detection we all play in, sometimes I forget the low tech options.

The blacked out electric tape works like a charm. I now keep both sound and visuals fully suppressed on the unit and only use notifications and audio via JBV1. I must say, a much more enjoyable driver experience.

It's basically a remote install at this point, aside from the chunk of black metal under my rear view mirror. Lol

It's still a great detector, but has ADHD. If you can shut it up and make it just tell you want to know it's still one of the best around. Boy, without Bluetooth I think I would have chucked it out my window long ago!

And for those not using JBV1 it's worth a try. It's really a great app and my fav by far.
