I'm going to Iceland at the end of the summer which I'm super excited about since it's an absolutely stunning country: It's a $310 nonstop flight there and back which is just too good not to take. I'll be doing the Golden Circle and Ring Road, so if anybody's been there I'd appreciate recommendations and tips. I definitely don't want to let this distract from the vacation, but the speed limits and fines are absolutely revolting. The highest speed limit is 90 km/h or 56 mph and the roads look like this: As far as I can tell, the fine for 11 km/h (6.8 mph) over on that road is nearly $500 (for 6.8 over). I already asked in international, but since nobody probably reads that does anybody know anything about frequencies or speed camera locations? This Escort thread is the only thing I can find. I downloaded a speed camera app and as far as I can tell the speed cameras are mostly on the populated west coast and all have a sign 200m in advance (is that outside the kill zone?) I don't plan of speeding too much because by the looks of it you'll be publicly beheaded for what I would usually drive on a road like that out west, but I'm kind of worried I'll accidentally go 11 km/h over and double the price of my vacation. I'm probably just being paranoid though since there isn't much enforcement in the middle of nowhere, I'll have a speed camera app, my R1, and all speed cameras are marked. It also won't affect my license or insurance. Despite that, Iceland still looks like an amazing country with landscape almost like another planet and I can't wait to see it.
