Thank you everyone for all of the useful information! I had no clue about the Raptor Rp-1K gun; I hope it doesn't make it's way to the Northeast US.

What are your K Band settings for Highway driving (QEW, 407, 427, 401)? K Wide or K Narrow?

Why is this? Is it because they mainly use LIDAR or because of the Raptor RP-1 K band radar gun.

I see K band all the time in Ontario from OPP in Haldimand county, and Lidar. Ka in cities like Hamilton.

I don't know. I can only report what I see in my drives. I just did 450km today btw.

OPP doesn't patrol Hamilton. We're also not talking about Haldimand county. OP was specific in what he/she was asking about.

I know they dont patrol hamilton, I didnt say they did. You said rd are mostly useless in ontario and they are far from it so I was correcting your mistake, thats all. Everyone makes mistakes. Theres a ton of people who use them all over ontario that will tell you they are not "mostly useless in this province"

I don't think I remember the last time my RD saved me from a real threat. Most patrol cars have radar in them, sure, but most of the enforcement is done via LIDAR. You also don't have to take my datapoints on this. Go take a look at CANLII yourself. It's shocking how few speeding cases indicate that conviction was done via radar and not lidar.

Have you encountered rear LIDAR shots?

No, not once, because if I did, I would have been pulled over. I have never ever seen shots from behind with LIDAR in the province of Ontario. (E.g. on highway on ramps as an example). That said I have heard these shots exist, but have never seen them and don't understand why any cop would do this as it would take them a LOT of time to catch up, AND 99.9999999% (or some number) of people in Ontario have no CMs as it's illegal and most are just oblivious that they even exist, let alone work!

Yet, you recently dropped about 2K on a remote detector? You've either got too much money or are foolish. Maybe both.

Just because I haven't been fried with radar doesn't mean that I don't want protection.

    Plain sight.

Mine are in plain sight. I didn't want to cut through my front grill to conceal them (Over $1000 front grill). Are LEO trained to recognize ALP heads?

Are the trained at the Police College to detect Laser Jammers? No.
Are they trained by their training officers to detect Jammers? I doubt it.
Are they ignorant about Laser Jammers? Some yes, some no.

There is more than enough info on the web for any traffic focused officer to know as much as we do. This forum is a prime example. a wealth of information easily accessible.

On some cop Forums, they have entire sections discussing countermeasures.

As I've mentioned one of our neighbours is an OPP officer. Who knows about RD's and Jammers. (Not from Me) They enjoy being assigned traffic duty. They have educated themselves on what to look for as they patrol a border area.

They caught a motorist using Jammers this year. I tried to get more info but didn't want to appear too interested. Unfortunately, it wasn't posted on their Twitter feed.

I think you'll be fine, but remember cops aren't stupid.

I am not sure if in ON it applies but in Quebec a LEO could search inside your car without a warrant.
Just letting you know, that the cops that know a little they try to look inside the car to see if there is strange wires or display.

Cops in ON are the same way. Sneaky bastards, that have way too much power. They can search anywhere in the car, but they are no longer allowed to search the people in the car for RD's like they used to.

I like the fact that in the US you need a warrant for that

What K band frequencies do you guys encounter in ON? Are you guys running K Wide or Narrow?

    True and verified.
Do not think that travelling in a cluster of cars , while using a detectable rd ,
is enough to escape the pirates. I read an article where cops brag about stopping 4 cars to find the culprit. Of course running a detectable in our days is plain stupid.
Braking under an alert is highly suspicious.
A well balanced paranoia is essential.
